Obsidian
Mistress of the Mountains Goblinoid 1087-A3 (a.k.a. Summer)
Obsidian is a member of the Thousand Blades tasked with patrolling the Giant's Spine Mountains for highwaymen and other threats. Previous incarnations of Obsidian were instead charged with defending the Mountain's eastern edge, as Lancaster was not a part of the Empire from 312-1398. She is the 206th Obsidian.
Physical Description
Identifying Characteristics
Obsidian has abnormally large ears for a Hobgoblin, and her face and arms are marked by stylized Skaldi script scarification.
Special abilities
The sword Obsidian gives it's wielder the ability to grow sharp spikes from their body. The current Obsidian has mastered this ability and has total control over the strength and exact sharpness of them, as well as exactly where the spikes grow from. She can use them to climb with extreme speed, use them as projectiles, cling to surfaces, and even use the spikes to hold objects.
Apparel & Accessories
Like most Blades, Obsidian likes to wear her black uniform tunic and golden sash. She chooses to accessorize with jade bands around her arms and legs, as well as embedded jade studs in her ears and hands, an homage to her Skaldoran heritage. She owns several identical uniforms and has never been known to wear anything else since taking up the sword.
Specialized Equipment
The sword Obsidian is a standard Blades katana, and is able to transform into a Skaldoran recurve bow. She also carries a pair of sickles enchanted to produce acid. She forgoes the typical Blades armor in favor of mountain pattern. Her satchel is extradimensional and carries her entire campsite, a common practice for 'nomad Blades'.

Personal history
Goblinoid 1087-A3 was born in Camp Viridian as part of an Imperial breeding program. She was part of one of the first successful batches, and as a child took to the training games easily. However, as an adolescent she fell in with some friends who resented their position as disposable soldiers and their treatment as less than human. She adopted the name Summer for herself, a translation of her human mother's Skaldoran name. As Summer, she helped organize the Society for Goblinoid Personhood and escaped Giant's Leap, hoping to make it to The Alliance. However, the Society was caught outside of Bronzehold. Rather than being taken back to Giant's Leap, they were deemed defective and stripped of citizenship. Unable to travel safely, the group became homeless in Bronzehold, eventually becoming enforcers for a minor Iron Shadow gang in the area. It was during this time that Summer crossed paths with the Blade Custodian, who recognized her as the next incarnation of Obsidian and insisted that Summer come with him to the Temple of the Blades. She agreed, but only on the condition that the Blades take on her fellows of the Society as paid and well-treated servants.
Sexuality
As Summer, she was exclusively attracted to men, however after becoming Obsidian she no longer experiences sexual attraction at all. She maintains a few romantic relationships with anyone who happens to catch her interest, these rarely last longer than a few months.
Education
Obsidian was trained as a soldier as soon as she was able to walk. She has made no effort to learn anything else since taking up the Blade, aside from a close study of Skaldoran religious practices.
Accomplishments & Achievements
Obsidian is well-known for leveraging her position as Blade to force minor nobility to adopt pro-Goblinoid policies. As a result of her efforts, the Society for Goblinoid Personhood has made great advances. Directly because of her intervention, Hobgoblins who refuse to be soldiers are allowed limited citizenship and Goblins are allowed to leave Giant's Leap.
Mental Trauma
A common condition to the first generation of mass-bred Hobgoblins is Early Generation Goblinoid Devolution. Obsidian suffers from an extremely heavy dissonance between the conflicting instincts of Goblin and Human, and experiences extreme discomfort from her status as non-human. She is compelled by this condition to behave and look as human as possible, and to subdue any inherently Goblin traits in order to be actually happy.
Morality & Philosophy
Obsidian is a firm believer in the idea that might makes right, so long as she's the one with the might. As far as she is concerned, her wishes outweigh the morality of any given act so long as she has the power to make it happen.
Taboos
Obsidian practices the Blue Sky Way, and believes that bodies must be burned in order to release their souls into the sky. She does not allow herself to leave a battlefield until all bodies are thrown into the "cleansing fire". On one notable occasion, she wiped out an entire bandit clan and took two months to "properly" send her enemies off.
Personality Characteristics
Motivation
To be accepted by her Human family; to advance the status of Goblinoids in the Empire; to find a worthy heir to Obsidian
Social
Contacts & Relations
Obsidian's mother is a soldier still stationed on Camp Viridian, and has produced massive numbers of siblings for the Empire. Despite Obsidian's best efforts, her mother wants nothing to do with her. She keeps correspondence with her aunts and uncles, and her grandfather (all on the human side), but has struggled to get them to accept her as a member of the family. Most of her friends are fellow Goblinoids in similar situations, save for the Blade Quill, who Obsidian considers her greatest friend.
Religious Views
She is not devout, but Obsidian practices the Blue Sky Way as a method of getting in touch with her human half.
Wealth & Financial state
All of Obsidian's money goes towards improving her lands in the Eastern Passes. Her castle is small, but the town built around it thrives thanks to her donations. The estate produces fruit for making brandy, and these earnings are also reinvested directly into the town.
