Igmortenum, The Apocalypse Wand

One of the Artifacts of Skaldor, Igmortenum is a magic wand made of runestone wrapped around a core of molten metal and malice. When used as a spell focus, the wand manifests all spells cast through it in some form of fiery death. It was made by the dread lich Veduin the Ageless in exchange for his phylactery, which a contingent of Blades working for Skaldor had tracked down and taken hostage. The wand would burn its wizard with hellfire for each spell cast, harming even those with an immunity to elemental flame. It was used to great effect early on in The Sylvan War, completely obliterating most of the treants and Oenkanen in the Third Battle of Dragonscale, before it was lost in battle at the Field of Bones. The wand would later be found and used by Embereki rebels fighting against Confederate control, destroying the Langite city of Lewuinhas. The victorious Confederate army's special forces would use the wand to conquer Drake Island before losing it to a strike team of guild wizards who sought to master infernomancy. As of 1422, the wand is presumed lost, though stories sometimes emerge of rural settlements burning down with no explanation in The River Kingdoms. 

Known Infernal Spells

• Cure Wounds becomes Inflict Burns
• Cloudkill sets victims on fire
• Magic Missiles explode on impact
• Hydraulic Push conjures a stream of lava
• Any summoning spell instead summons fire elementals, including Rain of Frogs
• Scrying spells burn the brains of the target
• Teleport opens hellgates
• Any movement spell (fly, wind walk, expeditious retreat, etc) leaves a vortex of toxic flames in the wake of the wizard
• Wish, Miracle, Time Stop, and other powerful spells all seem to summon hordes of infernal fire dragons that breath acidic fumes.
