Hundred Winds

Master of the Sky Tsuro Yevdis Firen

Hundred Winds is a member of the Thousand Blades tasked with commanding all the Empire's Winged Legions. He is the 96th incarnation of Hundred Winds.

Physical Description

Identifying Characteristics

Hundred Winds has a distinctive scar on his left cheek, the result of one of his father's cruelties. He is also missing the tip of his right ear because of a training accident. He always keeps his head shaved bald.

Special abilities

Hundred Blades has the power of wingless flight, granted by the sword. He can fly faster than most airships and flying steeds and can maneuver as perfectly as a dolphin in water. As a Blade, he is immune to aging and physical deterioration. Despite his Elven heritage and impressive education, he does not practice magic despite being capable of using it. Recently he has discovered that the Blade allows him to speak with and understand birds as though they were people.

Apparel & Accessories

Hundred Winds almost always wears the Blades uniform, a black silk shirt cut with a red sash bearing the golden dragon of the Empire. In keeping with military regulations, he never accessorizes save for his general's cross and other official decorations. When alone with his family, he wears traditional Rivaen tunics and slippers.

Specialized Equipment

The sword Hundred Winds is a standard Blades katana. It has the ability to transform into a cutlass and dagger or a repeating crossbow. Like all Blades, Hundred Winds wears ō-yoroi armor enchanted to be resistant to damage and carries a variety of magic potions in an extradimensional bag. The only breach of regulation he indulges in is a bandolier of flechettes, some of which are enchanted with electrical properties. He wears standard aviator's goggles when flying.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Born to a Rivaen servant in the Imperial Palace, Tsuro was named after his grandfather. His mother raised him to keep out of sight, as life in the palace could be dangerous to commoners. His father is a Langite ambassador to the Empire who went out of his way to humiliate Tsuro at every opportunity, sometimes ordering his staff to do so when he was busy. As a young man, Tsuro was sent by his father to the Blades temple to deliver an apology for a false insult in order to give his father an excuse to speak with a Blade the man was interested in, and he had not even made it to their doorstep when he was approached by the Blade Custodian and chosen by Hundred Winds. Tsuro immediately used his new position to take vengeance on his father, who was shortly reassigned. From there, Hundred Winds embraced his training and did everything he could to improve his family's position.

Education

Hundred Winds enrolled in the University soon after finishing his Blades training, taking general education courses and becoming a Scholar of both engineering and etiquette.

Morality & Philosophy

Hundred Winds believes that the world is inherently unfair, and that one must work extremely hard to hold on to any advantage they have gained. As such, he keeps a strict code of etiquette and morality when interacting with most people, but always defers to his superiors. He will never question an order, and will follow it regardless of how cruel it may seem. He harbors a personal resentment of all Langites, and indulges in humiliating them whenever he can get away with it despite his usual propriety.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Hundred Winds is dedicated to the Blades and the Empire to a point of fanaticism. His goal is to improve the Winged Legions and introduce so many airships into the fleet that the Empire will be unstoppable. To a lesser extent, he is determined to maintain his position of power and respect.

Savvies & Ineptitudes

Hundred Winds is often called the greatest aeronautical strategist in the history of the Empire. He understands flight in all it's forms, the strengths and weakness of each vehicle or mount under his command, and has devised multiple strategies for countless unlikely scenarios. His knowledge of engineering is nearly unrivaled as well, and he is occasionally contracted to consult on new mechanized landship designs.

Likes & Dislikes

Hundred Winds loves rare wines to the point he has published multiple books on the subject of alcohol and it's place in high society. Despite this, he hates receiving any gift other than what social protocol requires, and many subordinates hoping to buy their way into his good graces with expensive drinks have discovered that getting Hundred Winds a present is a surefire way to earn extra, unpleasant duties.

Personality Quirks

Hundred Winds insists on formality to the point of annoying others. He is extremely polite, but so rigid and inflexible in propriety that he is extremely easily offended.

Hygiene

An extension on his unwavering formality and politeness, Hundred Winds is obsessed with personal hygiene. He bathes as much as four times in a day, cleans his teeth after each meal, and changes clothes nearly on the hour. He also insists that his staff follow similar if less extreme rituals.

Social

Contacts & Relations

Hundred Winds is the Thane of the Salt Fields, and has used this position to elevate his family. Most Blades do not keep in contact with family, but Hundred Winds personally arranged for all of his extended relations to move to his estate and take up positions in his household. He keeps in regular contact with the other low nobility in the Greyguard area, inviting other thanes and landed knights to his estate for parties at least once a month, even when his duties send him away from Greguard.    He has given his mother her own (human) servants, and has paid for the University's former Master of Languages to live in his castle and give a quality general education to his many nieces and nephews. His twelve half-siblings serve important positions in his household, and his cousins and uncles were given land on his estate to pursue whatever careers they so choose. His own personal servants are all Langites.    Hundred Winds is also one of the very few Blades with a spouse, his wife being an Embereki landed knight of House Greymane. Together they have a single adult child enlisted in the Imperial Marines.

Religious Views

Hundred Winds, long before becoming a Blade, rejected his Langite heritage entirely and practices ancient Rivaen religious practices, including worshipping an ancestral water-spirit totem and obstaining from meat and fruit in favor of fish and vegetables (the Rivaen abstinence from grape wine he readily ignores). He has also adopted Skaldoran incense burning over the old Rivaen way, and he lights offerings daily to the past holders of the Blade.

Social Aptitude

Hundred Winds' insistence on formality and politeness sometimes alienates him from other nobility, but delights the lower classes when he interacts with them, especially his household servants. He is extremely skilled at recognizing when to interject in a conversation to avoid an argument, and is a master wordsmith able to keep anyone's attention for long periods of time. He carries himself with extreme confidence.

Mannerisms

Hundred Winds always clasps his hands behind his back when speaking so as to avoid accidentally making any gesture that might seem rude. He carefully chooses each word, never using contractions or slang unless making a point. His general persona while speaking changes depending on who he is talking to, as he has made a study of every culture on the continent including many extinct ones.

Hobbies & Pets

More than anything else, Hundred Winds spends his spare time in his private hangar, working on his personal fleet. He is extremely fond of hosting parties and wine tastings, but has never dabbled in brewing himself, instead preferring to purchase his wines from established craftsmen.    While it is his wife who breeds and keeps hunting falcons, Hundred Winds has a few favorites amongst her birds and can sometimes be heard speaking gently with them when he thinks no one is listening. Sometimes, he asks permission to bring his favorites to his hangar because he "works better" with them around.

Speech

Hundred Winds has trained himself out of his Rivean accent, favoring standard Imperial dialect.

Wealth & Financial state

Hundred Winds is careful to save half of his stipend, use a quarter on servants, and investing the other quarter. His investments include several wineries that are doing very well, and that money gets turned into his other passion: vehicular engineering. Hundred Winds owns a personal fleet of landships and mechanicals that could outfit a mechanized battalion if they were not designed for pleasure. Similarly, his wine cabinets are valued in the hundreds of thousands of gold pieces.
