Dwarf
Dwarves are humanoids native to the Aaldenbur mountain range. Dwarves are shorter than humans and taller than Halflings but have a stocky build. Originating from dangerous underground caverns, they are the hardiest of the known races. Dwarves are known for their stout frames, hairy bodies, and gruff demeanors. They flourish best in large communities and naturally tend to attach themselves to a specific group. They share the competitive tendencies of Gnomes and the careful contemplativeness of Elves.
Dwarf Culture
Dwarves cover the smallest geographic range of the "true races" of Illiria, and first settled their mountains tens of thousands of years ago. To outsiders, one Dwarf is very much like another. Dwarves have three distinct "ethnicities" that seem to stem from periods of migration above ground. The Voden are identified by darker skin tones and lighter beards, the Torlons have lighter skin and darker hair, and the Den are shorter than other Dwarves. Unlike humans or Elves, Dwarves do not divide themselves along these lines, instead focusing heavily on the individual Dwarf's choice of Clan or lack therof. Family is of the utmost importance to a Dwarf, then their work, and then their friends.Dwarf Clans
Dwarven society separates itself into clans based on general profession. The Auror, for instance, are the magic class of Dwarfkind while the Gaine are those who farm the earth and raise livestock. While Clans have risen and fallen over the millennia, they are always the central point of Dwarven politics and culture.
