Corpse Kraken
Corpse Krakens are Magical Beasts that heavily resemble their much larger counterparts. Corpse Kraken spawnlings are nearly invisible to the naked eye and are ejected into the air, where the river winds carry them over land. Most do not survive. However, some are eaten, inhaled, or otherwise enter a living body of any species. The spawnling attaches itself to the host's brain and begins the process of controlling the host for years. Corpse Krakens that land inside of humanoids often enjoy pretending to be their victim for as long as possible before the kraken grows too large for it's host body. At this point, the arms and tentacles of the kraken will be woven throughout the body of the host, sometimes visibly. Around this time, the kraken will seek out a body of water. When it gets there, it bursts it's tentacles out of the host to release it's own spawn into the water. This kills the host, but the kraken will continue to inhabit the body until it fully rots away. A corpse kraken cannot survive without it's host creature.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Corpse Krakens have ten tentacles and four longer arms. They have a rounded head and no bones or blood. Corpse Krakens take on many different shapes as they physically grow to resemble the inside of their host body.
Genetics and Reproduction
Corpse Krakens reproduce asexually. One of their four arms is actually an egg sac that grows throughout the life of a kraken, developing eggs into spawn with material it steals from the host body along with specific materials the host is compelled to eat. The larger the host body, the more spawnlings are released from the birth eruption process.
Growth Rate & Stages
A corpse kraken's growth is entirely dependent on the host species and diet of a specific host. Typically, a corpse kraken will grow to it's full size in a humanoid over the course of five to six years.
