Bushido

Wise Master Haru Kuro Denji

Bushido is the leader of the Thousand Blades, and the only Blade to have remained the same master-sword pair since their inception. He is the one who banded the Blades together in the old world and he is the one who continues to lead them millennia later. He is reclusive, rarely leaving the Temple of the Blades in Triumph.

Physical Description

Special abilities

Bushido can call on the power of his Blade to issue orders to any of the Thousand over any distance. He has also shown a limited ability to heal those under his command with simple words of encouragement.

Specialized Equipment

Bushido, that is the actual sword called Bushido, is a standard katana. It has the ability to transform into a naginata or a compound bow with the will of it's master.    Outside of the sword itself, Bushido is one of the few Blades known to fight without armor, instead preferring a silk fighting suit and relying on his combat mastery to keep him out of danger. He has not used any weapon but Bushido in at least two thousand years.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Bushido was born to an era long forgotten, on the faraway island continent of Fujiyama, in a sleepy little town in the nation of Gemai. That is all he remembers of his past. He found his Blade young, claiming it was given to him by a traveling old man. Since adopting the title of Blade, Bushido has been instrumental in the survival of the organization, first uniting the samurai and then leading them to the new world. After the events of the Sylvan War, Bushido has remained withdrawn in the Temple, rarely making public appearances.

Sexuality

In the nearly fifteen hundred years of his recorded history, Bushido has never once taken a romantic partner.

Education

Ten thousand years of life means that Bushido has amassed a pool of knowledge to match many scholars, though he himself lacks formal education.

Employment

Bushido has served thousands of masters over his long life, but is currently the leader of the Blades in service to the Third Empire of Evermore. As leader of the Blades, he has tremendous political power and is responsible for deploying the Blades, overseeing their training, disciplining them when needed, and assigning them to what he believes is their destined task.

Accomplishments & Achievements

As the oldest living mortal who trains daily, Bushido is widely considered to be the greatest swordsman on the continent of Illiria, if not the entire world. He has won every tournament he has participated in, some sixty since the formation of the Empire. He is also known to be an accomplished poet and, surprisingly to those who don't know him, a master gardener.

Failures & Embarrassments

Those closest to Bushido know that he feels personally ashamed whenever a Blade falls in the line of duty, believing that he sent them to their deaths. He remembers each of them. On at least one occasion he has expressed remorse for the actions of himself and the other Blades during the Sylvan War.

Morality & Philosophy

Bushido fundamentally believes in the value of mortal life and the importance of an orderly existence. As leader of a powerful military order, this often conflicts with necessities in the line of duty. He is a staunch believer in fate and the preordained, adopting a philosophy of mild fatalism- that while events are supposed to happen in a specific way, the free will of mortals has the capability to deny this destiny, and that every action taken should be one intentionally in line with one's pre-determined fate.

Taboos

Bushido refuses to end a mortal life on his own orders. He will do so or order one of his underlings to do so only when given a direct command by the Imperial Throne. He has a personal aversion to giving out advice that might influence another's choices, often answering questions from his fellow Blades in the form of parables or otherwise tricking them into answering their own questions.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

To preserve the Blades as an institution, to protect the swords of the Blades

Social

Religious Views

Bushido openly acknowledges that he clings to an old world religion, but never speaks of what it is. He has evidently converted several Blades to this mystery faith, impressing each of them with a belief in a tenet of secrecy. However, he is very respectful of the Cult of the Fifteen and has been known to periodically leave offerings for each of the gods.

Hobbies & Pets

When not actively working, Bushido trains with his sword. In his free time he enjoys gardening and poetry, specifically poetry from cultures of his homeland.

Speech

Bushido speaks with a very faint accent unique to him. He speaks rarely, but clearly and concisely always. He does not use any more words than needed when delivering orders.
