Blade Psychosis

The samurai who call themselves the Thousand Blades can be easily affected by a mental illness caused by their parasitic swords, the Blades Psychosis. It is rare even among the oldest Blades, but it is more common with age. It is easily manageable if symptoms are caught and treatment begins early.

Symptoms

Those who suffer Blades Psychosis begin to lose their own memories and personalities until they only identify themselves as the Blade they are master of. It begins slowly, and left untreated it can leave a victim unable to tell the physical difference between themselves and the Blade.

Treatment

There is no cure. The accepted practice used to stop the advancement of the condition is regular, repeated acknowledgements of oneself. For example, a daily journal starting each entry with a phrase such as "My name by birth is X, and I am from Y. My parents were..." etc. This seems to fully cease deterioration so long as regular upkeep is maintained.

Prognosis

Even in it's advanced state, Blades Psychosis is hardly lethal or even all that dangerous. But it is frightening to the victim and those who are close to them, and it can lead to out of character behavior that may be dangerous depending on which Blade one happens to be attached to.
