The versongetian war

The Conflict

Prelude

the frankish tribes traveled from the southern continent and settled in the plained between what is know frankish verainberg boarder around 5200YBCW. they had left there first homland in the south after they where driven out along with the Al shahasy by th first castlaian prrinces  . At first the dark elves attacked these intruders on their territory. But after these tribes defeated them in battle the dark elf hirarch tironek the monster agreed to give these clans a place in there empire. The greatest among them vercingetorix was given land which he named franka after the tribe he was born into. His land was the kingdom of versongetia and the wondering Frankish tribes know had a home. These lands know make up the heart land of the kingdom of frank but then it acted as a buffer to the land to the large elven kingdoms on the empires board. By this time many human tribes had traveled to the northern contanted. The versagetian war began 100 years after the founding of the kingdom. this kingdom fought with there overlords during the war of light and dark.

The Engagement

The boardereg high elf kingdoms formed into a federation to once and for all destroy the dark elf empire. First in the invasion route was versongetia. king Philip was a member of the dark elf court. They had showed him the way of armoured knights and soon a large court of knights formed in his army. And when invasion came the franks were there to meat it. A strong elven host crossed the border into the dark elf vessel numbering some 40000 men. Phillip could only gather some 8000 at first. He sent word to the hirach and was told a large dark elf host was on the way. Phillip and his advisors agreed that they would move to their Asiran fortress of le marison. The fortress was hidden in a forest and was it self built it a cave with running clean water. He moved his entire army and as many people as he could to the fortress. But the speed of the elven army meant that he couldn't dodge battle. A small 4000 strong elven mounted force attack the stream of people retreating to le marison. Philip himself lead his knights into the fight routing the elven army and taking the black steel blade of their leader a prince of one of the elven kings. After a month of marching phillip and his people reached the fortress sanctuary. The fortress itself was very important. It held the only main road to the north and the heart land of the former elven heartland territory. Soon 10000 elves had found the fortress harried the entire way by peasants and bands of skirmishers. But by the height of summer the elves had set up siege works and ballista. The siege lasted 4 months and was broken when the dark elf under the command of the hierarchs brother morathus the bold broke it. Phiilip subordinated himself to morathus and the two turned to face the main elven host led by king thioran the kind. It was his second son who had been killed by phillip and the elven king was out for revenge. Marching alongside him was his own human subordinate. Prince karl hallsberg was a relative of the baron and march 2000 slav  warriors alongside the elven army. The two elven armies would meet just before the first bad rains of autumn would fall on a plain know on the border of the kingdom of frank and the margravate of vola-essk in the verainberg empire. The dark elf army had around 17000 men and 8000 frankish troops mainly axe wheeling infantry known as la berserk (the berserkers) these men commonly wore wolf head mantales. He also had a core of some 200 knights and did have archers but not many. The invaders had some 20000 men with 3000 heavy knights. Phillip and his troops were in the vangarde along with the immortal sons the dark elf heavy infantry equipped with harbinger swords massive two handed weapons. The battle started when the sun was in the center of the sky. The high elf archers opened fire phillip and his vangarge on the center was ordered to charge. He led from horseback. With his knights. His army screamed into battle crashing against the organised shield wall of the high elves. His cavalry struch the flank but where then himself caught by high elf knights. Morthaus then ordered his cavalry to attack on both flanks hopefully weakening the invaders flank. Morthaus would devote half of his infantry to attack the center and leave his lighter infantry as reserve. He left this reserve in the hands of his son korman and he lead his men on foot to fight. This reinforcement helped the frankish troops. The high elf king throne then joined the battle himself attack the left flank were philip and his cavalry where. The frankish king rallied his knights for a final charge in the hopes of breaking the high elf cavalry.just as they were about to charge phillip saw his commanders knight charge in there umber back armour towards the high elves. King thiraon know under attack from two flanks turned and ran leaving his brother merin incharge. He was cut down and the dark elf cavalry along with there frankish allies turned the left flank. Morrathus ordered forward the rest of the army and the high elves retreated.

Outcome

The war didn't end until the snows started to fall and the federation of elven kingdoms fell apart and in turn started to fight one another. In response to the great victory the hierarch named phillip high king of the 12 (the 12 being the 12 different Frankish tribes. ) and granted him knighthood in the dark elf empire.

Aftermath

The war also started the art of chivalry and this would spread to the other human nations after The war of Men and the 'Old' races
