the united tsardom army
the armed forces of the united tsardom is a army famous for its cavalry.
Composition
Equipment
the earliest uniforms worn by the tsars soldiers were what ever the colors of there lords. many peasents only had the close they wore everyday and if they were lucky they were given leather. many mounted troops wore thin ring mail for flexibility and wore pate on top of it. many of the archers only wore chain mail with leather tunic over the top.
the cossack guards early unfirom was black iron Armour with a black fur mantel and this style has continued but the Armour was replaced with tunics a kin to that of hussars.
during the time of the 18 years war the tsars army has modeled completely differently to the western armys. due to is cavalry heaviness there was still a massive emphasis on out fitting cavalry and cavalry were given the best Armour and weapons. the infantry was left with what they could make themselves or what they could by. however in the winter there recruiters were ordered to give then fur lined great coats
during the grand military revolution the tsar looked at his land scape then looked at his army. the army wore the colors of the lord who's land they live on and seeing the steppe as the green expanse that it was decided to give the army a universal uniform which was all dark green.
Weaponry
the early army used hunting spears from the farmers as many farmers were forced into soldiering. the cavalry used lances and curved swords and double headed axes.
unlike the medieval armys of the west the tsar's knights wore lighter Armour but road the mach larger horse that roamed the steppe. this combination proved deadly with the horses of the tsar being able to cope fighting the armys of there enemy while having a more flexible rider who could more freely move unlike the knights of the west.
the infantry use muzzle loading cannons and rifles. the cavalry use swords and short rifles. lances however are the preferred weapon of the cavalry/
Structure
the tsar is the overall commander of all forces. a council of military elite also have control which normally included the nobles of the tsardom including the red prince and the dukes of estel and lathanina
Tactics
since anyone can remember the tsars army have relayed heavily on horse men. most of the army is horse men and the infantry had been used as a last resort. the lighter horse archers during the medieval age would harris communication and the flanks while the bulk of the cavalry would form up in either one wedged two wedges or three. this was to smash apart an enemy formation and then scatter it using force. against cavalry the tsar army would simple be able to out ride the enemy with there large horse having more stamina due to the fact they were carrying a lighter soldier and wore little Armour. the problem was that the tsars army had little defense against archers. and the lack of there own archer proved to be difficult so the tsar's army would pick a battlefield with wet ground so archers couldn't use there bows as well. however this tatci prove problematic
during the time of the 18 years war the army still was cavalry based but its infantry was getting better and was used like the troops in the verainberg empire. a lack of guns and artillery however meant the tsars armys had to use wight of numbers to carry the day.
by the time of the war of joachim the great the tsar's force had about 50/50 infantry cavalry and would uses over whelming cavalry charges to smash apart an enemy and to attack artillery after the infantry had damaged the enemy line.
Logistics
Logistical Support
the steppe is difficult to navigate and so specialized troops are needed to help the army with movement. most of these troops are magic sensitive using there magic to help navigate the endless steppe. special cartography troops are sent as well masters of the steppe and master map makers.
History
the united tsardom army came about when the last tsar of borovsk united the lands toghter. the lords then set about building armys while still under there control the time of supreme commander was the tsars and he had total military control. the horse lord nature of the 4 tribes meant the army's were very cavalry orientated and relayed on cavalry. this continued well into the time of men until the grand military revolution the army became less cavalry orientated with about 50/50 cavalry to infantry.
