The battle of the Black Fires

Fought between the the elven empire And the kingdom of shade and shadow. It was the largest battle ever fought between the races of elves and vampires

The Conflict

Prelude

The first king of shade and shadow broke ties with the elven emperor. He separated his lands know then as drakefell (one walchendorf) and was crowned long of shade and shadow. Over the years the elves tried to destroy the vampires but were unsuccessful. However there was one elven emperor who was of worth to defeat the vampires and there king.
High king thauanwy was said to Be a great high king. He was handsome with long blonde hair and sapphire blue eyes. He was also a dragon rider riding the Great dragon simal. Husband legacy was also safe as he had 6 sons who were all dragon riders. Thuanwy believed that the vampires posed to much of a danger to left unchallenged. So he summoned his lesser lords and the other elves to his umpires like capital. He appealed to the dark elves of the west the sea elves of the southern and northern coasts and the lords of the forests. Many high elves lifted there swords in triumph even some of the wood elves sea elves did as well but the clever sour dark elves Andy most of the Sean and wood elves stayed silent. The high long was able to gather a host of some 150000 men with thousands of cavalry and chariots.
However from his castle the king of shade And shadow haroc drakoss know was haroc the broken rules with an iron fist over his people after the death of his wife. He had but one son the kind and caring hernik. Both father and son were dragon riders. Father rode the black Great dragon arkonay a black. He was like his rider curl harsh yet loving to his mate herniks dragon semestria a great blue beauty. When haroc Hurd of the elven gathering he gathered his own supporters including his son. Haroc day on his throne and watched as his fellow vampires argued on what’s to do while his son tried to prevent the break down. When there king rose the were silent and listened. We will not die squabbling the king said we will rise united. The king said and a cheer went through the dark hall of the vampires kings. Haroc gathered a host of 100000 men but lacked heavy horse and artillery but haroc As well had dragons and could use far darker magic than the elves.
The elves quickly march towards drake fell defeating small host of local vampire lords. haroc waited however and made sure that his castle was in view. and this was where he placed his army on a great filed then know as drakenfiled.

Deployment

the vampire army deployed itself on the eastern half of the filed. however the king and prince were waiting upon the lonely peak a mountain of black over looking the battle filed.
the imperial elven army was marching down the winding road. the set up camp. the high king and his sons however were resting along with most of there elite troops in a alcove which was hidden just north of the battle filed where a river ran into a cave. there the king made his plans.

The Engagement

beginning-haroc made the first move ordering his army to open fire with artillery. this tore bloody holes in the elven line. then he descended on the back or arkonay. he cut fiery lines through the elf army. when thauaway found out he hesitated but his eldest son and heir king hiron made his way to the battle filed on the back Raznok. thauaway ordered his other sons to stay while he got his elite troops together then they would fly to help there brother. mean while the elven cavalry struck at the flanks of the vampire host but the heavy pike men of the vampire army were strong and allowed there own cavalry to counter however the vampire knights were no mach for there elven counter part. king hiron arrived on the back of raznok just before haroc and his dragon were about to make another attack run. the heir wouldn't allow it and went straight for the head of the vampire army. raznok electrified fire burst in a yellow torrent in the direction of the black beat and the vampire king. arkonay banked just in time to grapple in the air with the great yellow dragon and his rider. the two riders cast magic to try and kill one another but it would be the dragon who would deiced the duel. raznok slashed at the trough of arkonay while the black beast went for the younger dragons. neck. then arkonay got a grip of Raznok and tore his neck off in one bit and the dragon and rider fell to the ground. king thauawys eldest son a heir along with his dragon were dead. soon after the elven army stopped its advance in order to retrieve the body of the young king and waited for there high king. elven generals as well needed a way of taking the black iron line of vampire infantry. the elven generals pondered and waited but the vampires didn't. moroth blood hand king haroc's closet friend lead the army on foot and marched closer to the elven host. this soon turned into a charge and the vampires fell upon the elves aided by there king. the slaughter was imminence with hundreds dying. then the tide seemed to change again the high king along with the rest of his sons had come with 3000 elite Calvary. this renewed the elves spirits and they fought harder. thauawy and his great dragon Simal dived straight for the vampire king and arkonay. simal white flames clocked the black dragon burning his tail and fusing the back plate of the harocs Armour to his skin but this damaged him little and he turned the black beast and did battle with the elven high king. the other dragons however made merry burning lines through the ranks of the vampire army. but then something came from the grey clouds above. a great blue dragon burst from the clouds and descended upon the elven princes. it was semestria and henrik. they first went for the mergo the red giant and his rider turnedgravelywarpedaroundprinceinjuredneitherseveralchunksblackdistressedstrengthhundredssafetyeventuallyexhausted her wounded were making her struggle and she pain was over powering her then a shadowy beast attacked the she dragon and her mount. it took her bu the leg and almost tore it off. semestira let out a cry of terror and pain as she felt all the bones in her leg shattered in the jaw of this shadow winged beast. prince hernik horrified that his only friend was hurt tried everything to save her then another dragon the snow white mirax the winter fury and her mount ilanu attacked semestria and the two entered into an Ariel battle. however this time the blue she dragon wouldn't win out. to tired she fell but not before the shielded her rider from the fall. semestira crashed onto the side of the lone peak and slid down peak. when the stop hernik tried to save his closest friend by using blood magic in an attempt to save her. he tore his soul in two in order to try and save her. arkonay as well knew something was wrong and turned to fly to his mate. haroc saw his son attempting to bind his left to her in an attempt to save her and pulled him away taking him in his arms and hiding him from the horror of the death of his friend. arkonay nudged his mate in an attempt to wake her but she had already died. despite this the battle still hadn't ended. the dragon which still lived tore hole in the vampire ranks. the riderless semron was taken by the high king who took to the sky once again. mirax as well stared to freeze the ranks of the vampires. however vampire artillery injured mirax who fell to the earth along with her prince who was taken captive by morath and his elite harbinger guard. hernik walked allow to the battle ground and fell into a black rage killing an unknown number of men. his father and his mount joined the battle again and turned the white armored ranks of elves to black husks. by the time night came the tow army's marched away from one another. into the night small bands of soldier fought one another as they walked back to the safety of there own camp. when the morning came they saw the devastation of the battle. black lines scored the filed and the corpses of 4 dragon littered the filed. thousands lay dead and dying the wounded dragons were kept behind the lines and the vampires prepared for a defensive battle while the elves decided they would use one last cavalry charge to brake there foe. thousands of elven cavalry and chariots charged but arrows and bolts killed hundreds of them but they crashed into the vampire ranks. herink lead the counter charge pushing back the elves. the elven host lead by there high king on dragon back. arkonay took to the sky once again and dived down upon semron and the high king. smeron tail was torn off while arkonay was blinded in one eye. then haroc bounded from the black beast back and thrust his sword at the heart of the high king. he pared the blow but it hit him in the arm. smeron while this was going on tore at the jaw of arkonay ripping the left of his lower jaw off. haroc turned but to see his dragon cry in pain. he bounded back to his mount and before he mounted him he plunged his sword into semeron left eye blinding the dragon in that eye. arkonay and haroc flew back the the vampire camp. his dragon wounded haroc decided to hold his line ordering his magicians to clock the army in a black fog.
the elven army had to halt. it had expended it last attack and it was to tired to fight on. the high king was aslo badly wounded physically and mentally with all his sons dead or missing. he fought he saw his savor when in the north advancing over the hill a black armored host of some 15000. at it head was the young leader of the dark elves. twice the high king sent word for help but twice the messenger returned empty handed. the vampires were spent as well but they were willing to make one more attempted to make battle. the 20000 fittest soldiers lead by prince hernik charged but failed to brake them. the high king look to see the dark elves turn away. he then sought council with his lords and by the rise of the moon sent a messenger to king haroc asking for his son and peace.

Outcome

both hosts were so badly mauled that neither could fight one another. the elves however had to retreat back home.

Aftermath

the high king had lost his son an heir hiron along with his other sons prince smerion, ,prince thanuawy, prince Lional. only his son prince ilanu survived but his captures punished him and this had driven him half mad. along with the prince however there the dragon had died. the great dragon mergo and the lesser dragon mirax, raznok and terina had died. the high kings personal mount simal had been badly wounded and could no longer fly. with his only heir mad thanwy descended into despair and died only 4 years after the battle. his son ilanu susseded him ans high king ilanu 1st know as the mad or the broken.
for the vampire semestira had died and this drove the prince of shade and shadow into madness but this was cured by the young maid lady merga. however it only served to cover over the hole and he rose up against his father and killed him in a rebellion. he would go on styling him self the king of the night's and became hernik 1st king of the night.

Historical Significance

Legacy

this battle highlighted the lack of unity in the elven empire with the dark elves walking away from helping there allies and high king.
the high kings was succeeded by a mad man twisted by torture was unable to rule and produced only one son with his sister who ruled after him.
