The New Covenant

The New Covenant are a group of people who wish to understand the Altiris Covenant and stop the Blight from once again destroying civilization. Their base of operations is in the ruins of the castle Cumulus in the former Altiris Covenant's capital city, Cirris. The castle in the center of the ruined city appears completely destroyed to the casual observer, but it's actually been rebuilt. A spell has been cast on it to make it appear destroyed, and anyone who does not know the truth will be magically compelled to stay away from it. The New Covenant is committed to stopping the Church of Azagog and finding a cure for the Blight. They had received samples of a vaccine from Dr. Haphalla in Norlyn, but were not able to produce more of it. This is partly because the active ingredient is Altirisian Opals, which are legendarily rare, and partly because Haphalla has such incredible medicinal talent that none have been able to properly reproduce it.

Structure

The New Covenant is led by Gaius Cassius Armelius, a man who claims to be the direct descendant of the last Magistrate of the Altiris Covenant, Tiberius Quintus Armelius, as its Consul. He makes all the executive decisions and is supported by his Cabinet of the heads of each of the divisions. These divisions are each devoted to a certain aspect of the Covenant's cause, assisting in their own way. Each division has its own organization.

Research Division

The Research Division is in charge of piecing together the lost history of Altiris. They mostly stay in Cirris in their labs and libraries, but also have researchers and archaeologists who explore ruins and whatnot to find clues and relics. Populated mostly by wizards, clerics, and the like. The Research Division is led by Callowind Diali, an elf man with long pink hair. He was formerly a professor at the Eccoh University who specialized in ancient magic artifacts, but was recruited to TNC because of his work.

Reconnaissance Division

The Recon Division is the main team in charge of investigating new threats, reclaiming artifacts from dangerous positions, and keeping an eye on the Church of Azagog. Agents typically either work alone or in small groups, and have the authority to bring potential new recruits back to Cirris for consideration for recruitment. The Recon Division is led by Tasha Abernathy, a gruff woman and skilled Ranger.

Diplomacy Division

The Diplomacy Division is in charge of attempting to persuade political leaders to be sympathetic to their cause and to see the dangers of the Church of Azagog. The Diplomacy Division is led by Anette Yancy, a human woman who used to be the mayor of Norlyn.

Public Agenda

The New Covenant's mission is to eradicate The Blight, and weaken the Church of Azagog. They operate in the shadows, attempting to avoid as much detection by the Church as possible.

History

Gaius Cassius Armelius founded The New Covenant in 931 PC in order to combat the rising prevalence of The Blight, recognizing its connection to the fall of the Altiris covenant centuries ago. Additionally, he noticed that Church of Azagog seemed to be always nearby where The Blight was common. As the direct descendent of the last Altirisian Magistrate, and inspired by the Vesperin Army's success in defeating the Asmodeus Legion so many years ago, he made it his mission to make a difference in the world. Using the last of his family's fortune, he traveled Draydar in search of powerful allies to found the organization.
