Auxilia
Unlike the Legions, the Auxilia act as law enforcement in the settlements of Reustacei.
Composition
Manpower
The strength of an Auxilia unit depends on the size of a settlement and the threats it faces. But, on average, there is ~1 Auxilia per every 100 citizens.
Equipment
All Auxilia are issued standard armour, but the colour varies. All their equipment is issued by the Auxilia.

Structure
Ranks & Responsibilities
Ordered from highest to lowest.- Preafectus - The highest ranking member of the Auxilia, they are skilled and experienced veterans who make sure that those under their command train hard, act professionally, and represent the nation well.
- Centurion - Are in charge of individual Patrols, and trained in command by Preafectus. More senior Centurions may be placed in command of a Watch.
- Auxilia - Are individual city guards.
Organization
An Auxilia force is organized as follows. Note that this is the "accepted" standard, but it is not always maintained.Organization LVL | Number of Troops and Sub-Divisions | Ranking Commander |
---|---|---|
Local Auxilia | 280 Auxilia, 4 Watches | Preafectus |
Watch | 70 Auxilia, 10 Patrols | Sr. Centurion |
Patrol | 7 Auxilia | Jr. Centurion |
Tactics
The Auxilia generally moves in loose Patrols of 7 men, in order to reduce the amount of tension their presence causes. They can work in more coordinate formations when a settlement comes under attack, but they tend to do better as a skirmishing force.
This ability to work in looser formations is a boon when settlements are under siege, as it allows the Auxilia to engage in dirty, building to building, fighting.
Training
The Auxilia undergo refresher training as their superiors deem it necessary.
The initial training period varies from settlement to settlement, but is usually ~3 months. This training teaches recruits policing techniques, basic investigative skills, negotiation skills, de-escalation techniques, and basic combat skills.
Some Auxilia are especially trained in undercover work, and others still are trained in raids (conducted against buildings). This is more common in larger settlements.
Logistics
Logistical Support
Unless they are directly supporting a campaigning Legion, the Auxilia are supported by the settlement they are located in. Typically, this comes in the form of general coffers to train and supply each member, that is payed out by the settlement, while wages are payed by Senate.
Recruitment
The Auxilia is an entirely volunteer force, and citizens can become Emeritus via serving in the Auxilia.
