Bright Moon City

History

Dark Age

Evidence of a bridge to the Moonstone across Bright Bay dates back to 1850 BK. Foundations of small structures are found below the moonstone, where early people gathered together, using the Moonstone's power to protect them from the evil known as Azvatis.

Age of Strife

Following the defeat of Azvatis, the people living in the area spread out, likely due to violence as local warlords fought for power.

Founding Era

Bright Moon City is the oldest still standing settlement of Bright Moon, dating back to the Founding Era. At the start of the Founding Era, the land that now makes up Bright Moon City was most likely deserted. Queen Celestia arrived in the area leading a group of people fleeing from famine in the Rocky Mountains. Using the magic from the Moonstone, Queen Celestia began to found the kingdom that would become Bright Moon in 56 KE.   The city operated as a civilian town for the first four years. In 60 KE, a tower was constructed to reach the Moonstone, and the first city walls were constructed. In 87 KE, the city was destroyed by large fire, and the Brightens quickly rebuilt, taking only ten years to recover.   By 113 KE, the population of the city grew to 60,000 inhabitants. Bright Moon became known for it's large theater, and for Moonstone Tower. The city was also a center of diversity, with Pixies, Human, Satyrs, Orcs, and Vanara living in the city.   In 124 KE, construction started on the Chamber of Queens, a hidden area that is considered sacred to the Brightens. Combined with the Moonstone Tower, these two areas became the start of Brightmoon Castle.   Bright Bay became the center of numerous pirate raids, starting around 225 KE, which led to a slow decline of the city's population as people began to flee to the west, leading to quarrels with the kingdoms of Plumeria and Salineas, and the death of Queen Celestia.

Middle Ages

Political instability, pirate raids, and quarrels on neighboring borders led to a rapid decline for the city of Bright Moon. By the 400 KE, the city was nearly abandoned. In 518 KE, Lunia abdicated the throne in favor of her daughter, Queen Angellia. Queen Angellia began to restructure the city, and it's population grew to 12,000.   Queen Angellia put a focus on architecture and culture. On the site of the old theater, she built Brightmoon Theater. It was a modest building, but drew in many people from the surrounding area. She also founded the first school of Lunar Magic, and mages began to come to the area to hone their craft.
