Iceberry

A rare bit of life found in tundra plains of Koljorn. The plants sweat moisture which then freezes, creating an ice-shell that protects it from the severe winds of the plains. During the day, the ice casing acts like a focus for the sun even on overcast days, providing enough energy for the plant to grow thorns that break it's own shell only to continue sweating excess moisture and creating a new shell. In the summer on sunny days, the ice shells melt revealing white or blue blossoms. The melting ice transfers pollen from one flower to another, allowing the plant to bear a white or light blue cluster berry fruit with a sour flavor. Uniquely, the iceberry bush has fruit at all times of year, and the fruit may stay attached to the bush for several years, waiting for a bird or other animal to eat the fruit before attempting another bloom.

A few tribes cultivate Iceberry bushes, commonly referred to in Närgon as Ornbonnsok, however the berry is mostly unknown outside of Koljorn because the berry begins to rot after picked if temperatures are above freezing. A field of Iceberry bushes creates quite a stunning visual, especially in sunlight however not all favor the plant as it has a poisonous partner called Whiteberry.
