Seaspan Isles

History & Lore

The 7 island chain due west and northwest respectively of Hatchetwinks are known as the Seaspan Isles which are part of the Greater Westerly Isles. The islands that make up this archipelago are:

• Hell's Gate Island
• The Triborough (Sial, Kiatal, Ovu)
• Ichorburgh
• Darkberry
• Sanctuary

4 bridges connect the Triborough and another bridge connects the Ichorburgh and Darkberry. That bridge, the longest in existence was a massive undertaking by the Tieflings and Dwarves, with the former providing the skilled labor and the latter providing the innovative design. Though there are plans to connect Hell's Gate to Darkberry, funding for that project has yet to be secured.

Hell's Gate Island

So named for its volcanic activity that pours molten magma onto the coasts. This process occurs year round making it incredibly difficult to reach the island anywhere except the two ports on the northern and southern ends of the island. While not much is known about the large island, it is the Tiefling homeland and rumored to hide access to the dimensional plane known as the Æther Veil.

The Triborough

Home to the Tiefling sages and elders, the Triboroughs are the safest (relatively speaking) of any of the islands that make up the archipelago. Hell's Gate with its lava flows, Ichorburgh's toxic gasses, and Darkberry with is veritable plethora of poisonous plants; makes Triborough's lethal quicksand pits a walk in the park to natives.

Ichorburgh

Sitting on a geothermic site is not an issue for most islands, but Ichorburgh is unfortunately situated over sulfur deposits. Frequently the lava flows ignite the sulfur sending toxic gasses to the surface rendering the air mildly toxic, while the aerosolized sulfur making the entire island hazardous to non-natives. Though it is believed that individuals who were born on the island have a natural resistance to most poisons.

Darkberry

So named for its varietals of common fruits and vegetables discolored by a number of silicates in the soil. Crops grown in this soil have two qualities, first they are a darker hue, skewed closer to black than its native color; second, they lack any discernible flavor. Leaving Tiefling culinary culture woefully bland and unimaginative.

Sanctuary

Not much is known about this secretive island. A blockade runs in constant formation around the island making it one of the most secluded locations in Espen. As Tieflings have no recognized formal government petitioning to visit the island remains impossible and only available to other Tieflings.
