The Æther Veil exists as a bridge to another dimension, and that sits between this world that the Celestial Realm. The only widely known entrance exists at a secure location of the island of Hell's Gate. Only accessible through knowledge of Old World Runes, the Veil is the sole way to reach the Celestial Realm which itself is requires runes of protection to navigate.
As another plane of existence the Æther Veil exists in a state of constant environmental extremes. The heat and pressure in this areas are oppressive, stifling, and nearly devoid water. This has made the culture here exceeding resilient as generations of have adapted to their harsh environment.
"Tann'ik Rhaka" - The Teifling Secret as it is known, limits access to the entrance of the Veil. Traditionally only the most dogmatic followers of the Old Gods and Tieflings are allowed to view the portal, much less pass through it.
Many mainlanders believe that Tieflings are a cursed race who were doomed to a cursed realm. The common belief is that the faithless who die will be reincarnated as teiflings and forced to live out eternity as prisoners in the Veil.
Tieflings have set up a small encampment on the edge of that existence and guard it constantly. Tieflings born of the Veil where a lack of color and light even effected their skin, giving it either a grayish dull or reddish hue.
