No one can quite figure out how the Bank of Espen works. Though it's not a problem for many of its patrons in The Major Cities, skepticism abounds in the smaller towns and villages. Kissan Patelo decided to rectify that issue. To do so he opened Espen's second bank and only bank/inn. The Inn For A Copper made its debuted to a tepid response.
The Inn kept the bank solvent until the bank there were ample resources for growth. Once the idea of a Bank/Inn caught on folks in smaller towns were all too eager to sign up. Their bookkeeping system was the envy of most of the academic institutions in Espen. Residents of Beggarsbourne, Dead Eye Run, Blackpool, Blight Springs, and Lost Wood all made appeals for the opening of satellite banks.

Ownership:

Kissan Patelo was always interested in the financial institutions of Espen but it was the classic case of being born in the wrong time, wrong place, and the wrong race.

• Wrong Time: Had he been born before UE 701 when the bank and all the related treaties were still being formed he could have carved out a place for the Gnomish people.
• Wrong Place: Born in Beggarsboune gave him little chance at ever having enough gold to open his own shop.
• Wrong Race: Being born a Gnome in a predominantly human city was no help either.

But he would not be deterred. As soon as he could save up the requisite gold he left Beggarsbourne working as a bookkeeper and reporter for the Kobold Dispatch in Nin. His size was finally an advantage, getting him into places that others could not. Gathering a number of stories that would earn him the connections he would need to start Inn For A Copper.
