Dryspell & Drydock - D&D
[History]
The town of Drydock sits near Oxdown Lake. Once a booming town that saw a massive expanse that coincided with the population boom of Fizzlebreach. The town was conceived as a location for storage and ship maintenance and turned into a glorified resupply depot that then took on a life of its own as the largest dry port in Espen. The town was originally a Gnomish settlement but due to the massive influx of shipping, the population shifted towards a predominantly Goblin, Hobgoblin, and Dwarvish population. Drydock's long history as a trade hub between Tanalier, Ossirion and Fizzlebreach brought substantial prosperity to the region, however with the advent of better maps, faster boats and improved shipping procedures pioneered by Red Ward Shipping made the once booming town's strategic location somewhat obsolete. At the same time Drydock was on the decline, the nearby village of Dryspell was having its own renaissance. A Sea Elf with a penchant for wine-making discovered the secrets of Sparkling Wine making the relatively cool area north of the Brizim Peninsula perfect for white grape groves. However, as his product took nearly 2 years to mature into the delicious concoction that would come to be known as champagne, the limited space for storage presented a problem. However, Dryspell's problem was Drydock's salvation. Offering their now empty warehouses for storage and their access to the larger cities as a means to commerce the two towns formed a symbiotic relationship that lasts to this day.[Locations]
The Halfway Inn serves as the inn for both Drydock and Dryspell its neighboring village 25 miles away. The family that operates the inn has been residents since the town's inception. What was once a lavish set of lofts and stand-alone cabins fell into disrepair as the town's population dwindled. Today, The Halfway Inn is mostly used by travelers and tradesmen coming to or from Dryspell. Spirited Champagne & Wine (Dryspell) is the premiere Champagne producer in the region and owns the adjoining 700 acres of farmland and vineyards. Choking out most of the other competition, Spirited owns 64% of all farmland suitable for producing the coveted bubbly drink. It is no longer in its heyday, however, the Warehouse of Holding (Drydock) earned its reputation as one of the more secure locations to store large and bulk items. Having spent time as a granary, a vehicle cache, a salt silo, and then finally a cellar for the aging of champagne. In true twin city fashion, the only other industry present in Dryspell of Drydock exists as the 12 square miles of forest between the two towns known as the Korkscrew Grove. Fortuitously the forests are mostly filled with Pine and Cork trees, both of which add to the wine industry. The Cork trees are harvested annually for the tops of the champagne and the pine tar is used to adhere the parchment labels to the glass bottles.
