The Shattered Sea

The shattered sea is an area which suffered more damage than any other during the cataclysm, although no-one is sure of the reason for this. What was once solid land was dramatically sundered into a sea filled with jagged rocks and hundreds of small islands. Today, these treacherous waters are home to pirates, smugglers, and other ne-er-do-wells, protected from serious naval action by the sheer difficulty of moving large forces between the islands.

Settlements

There are settlements of all sorts scattered across the islands, most of little significance, but there are several of note.

Geography

Arguably the most important feature of the Shattered Sea is the broad passage known as The Channel, which cuts straight through the Shattered Sea from the Crater sea in the north-east to the easternmost tip of Shield Island in the south west. The Channel is one of the only areas of the Shattered Sea allowing passage to captains without extremely detailed local maps or years of experience sailing these treacherous waters.

Shield island is by far the largest island in the Shattered Sea, comparable in size to the other major landmasses in The Shattered Continent. While it is home to Waylon's Landing, it's most significant feature regarding ocean travel is the Shield Mountains, a seemingly unnaturally tall and jagged mountain chain, stretching for nearly a thousand miles, most of it in the ocean to the south-east and north-west of shield island, forming a nearly impassable barrier for many miles on both sides of it.

Climate

The Shattered Sea enjoys a year round tropical climate right up to the edges of the landmasses to the east, where it abruptly changes to a more moderate climate near Fruchtbarland, and a chilly arctic tundra by Alhamland. To the west, Shield Island has tropical swamps along it's north-east coast, and a hot savannah further inland. On the other side of the Shield Mountains, Dense jungle covers most of the land, with patches of tropical swamp and savannah.
