Dwarves

Dwarves, sometimes known as the Stout Folk or the Deep Folk, are a natural humanoid race common throughout parts of Esau. Dwarves are often tough, tradition-abiding folk known for their strong martial traditions and beautiful craftsmanship.



SUB-RACES


Arctic dwarves
Arctic dwarves have a different origin from most other dwarves in Esau, and are significantly different physiologically and culturally.
Skin colours = White to icy blue
Hair colour = White
Eye colour = Bright blue
Distinctions = Small, ruddy cheeks, physically powerful, sometimes clumsy, friendly, naturalistic
Resistance = to cold damage

Duergar
Also known as gray dwarves, or underdwarves. Living within the Underdark of Ru'Mal and Ru'Than are the Duergar, or gray dwarves. These vicious, stealthy slave traders raid the surface world for captives, then sell their prey to the other races of the Underdark. In nature, they can be tyrannical, grim, industrious and pessimistic. They have innate magical abilities to become invisible and to temporarily grow to giant size.
Skin colour = Ash gray
Hairstyle = Bald
Eye colour = Black
Advantage: on saving throws against poison, spells, and illusions
Resistances: charmed, paralyzed

Hill dwarves
Also known as Gold Dwarves. They are known to be particularly stalwart warriors and shrewd traders. They have a keen senses, deep intuition, and remarkable resilience.
Skin colours = Light brown, tan
Hair colours = Black, brown, gray; usually grays to light gray with age Eye colours = Brown, hazel
Typical build = Stocky, muscular
Ability Score Increase = Wisdom score increases by 1.
Dwarven Toughness = Hit point maximum increases by 1, and it increases by 1 every time they gain a level.

Mountain dwarves
Also known as Shield dwarves. A mountain dwarf is strong and hardy, accustomed to a difficult life in rugged terrain. They on the taller than some other dwarves, and tend toward lighter colouration.
The royal family in Hammerforge Palace are decended from the first King, a Mountain Dwarf.
Skin colours = Pale to lightly tanned
Hair colours = Red to light brown; grays to white with age
Eye colours = Green, silvery blue
Typical build = Stocky, broad, muscular
Ability Score Increase = Strength score increases by 2.
Dwarven Armor Training = proficiency with light and medium armour.

The Azer
Azers are resides of The Plane of Fire and The Plane of Void, and bear a resemblance to other dwarves, but with brass-colored skin and hair, their hair and beards composed of flames. Azer bodies are so hot that their weapons conduct heat, so much so that any creatures within reach of an Azer is injured by the intense heat. Many azers wear kilts and apron-like garments made from beaten brass, bronze, or copper.

Distinctions = Immunity to fire, Vulnerability to cold, Magic resistance


Urdunnir dwarves
Their name means "orecutter" in their dialect of Dwarvish. They live in parts of the Underdark of Ru'Mal and Ru'Than.
Skin colour = Stone gray
Hair colour = Stone gray
Eye colour = Silver
Earth Walk: All urdunnirin had the ability to walk through solid earth and stone at will - moving through these normally solid materials as if they were air. They could move up to twice their body weight with them in this manner.
Mold Earth: They choose a portion of dirt or stone visable within range and that fits within a 5-foot cube. Then they manipulate it
Stone Shape: they can touch a stone object of Medium size or smaller, or a section of stone no more than 5 feet in any dimension and form it into any shape.

Wild dwarves
Also known as Greenbeards. They worship Thard Harr. They live in warmer areas of Jungle or Forests. The wild dwarves sometimes traded for metal or glass objects in exchange for skins, meat, or captured animals. Ever cautious of outsiders, they would generally only enact trade in their own territory and would set traps in case of betrayal.
Considered primative by other Dwarves.
Skin colours = Dark
Eye colour = Dark brown
Distinctions = short, stout, very muscular, usually nude, extremely long woven hair, heavily tattooed,
Stealth: advantage on all stealth rolls


ARTIFACTS

Amulets of Natural Armour = wearing this Dwarvian armour magically toughened the wearer's skin - making it harder to break.


Basic Information

Biological Traits

A dwarf has an assortment of inborn Abilities, part and parcel of dwarven Nature.

Ability Score Increase: Constitution score increases by 2.
Alignment: Most Dwarves are lawful, believing firmly in the benefits of a well-ordered Society. They often have a strong sense of Fair Play and a belief that everyone deserves to share in the benefits of a just order.
Speed: Walking speed is 25 feet - that speed is not reduced by wearing Heavy Armour.

Darkvision: Accustomed to life Underground, they have superior Vision in dark and dim Conditions. Can see in dim light within 60 feet as if it were bright light, and in Darkness as if it were dim light. Yet cannot discern colour in Darkness, only Shades of Gray.
Dwarven Resilience: They have advantage on Saving Throws against poison, and Resistance against poison damage.
Dwarven Combat Training: They have Proficiency with the Battleaxe, Handaxe, Light Hammer, and Warhammer.
Tool Proficiency: They gain Proficiency with the artisan’s tools of either: smith’s tools, brewer’s supplies, or mason’s tools.
Stonecunning: Whenever a dwarf makes an Intelligence (History) check related to the Origin of Stonework, they are considered proficient in the History skill and add double Proficiency bonus to the check, instead of a normal Proficiency bonus.


Growth Rate & Stages

Dwarves mature at about 25 years old, but they’re considered young until they reach the age of 50. On average, they live about 350 years.

Naming Traditions

A dwarf’s name is usually given by a clan elder, in accordance with tradition.
Every proper dwarven name has been used and reused down through the generations. A dwarf’s name belongs to the clan, not to the individual. A dwarf who misuses or brings shame to a clan name is stripped of the name and forbidden by law to use any dwarven name in its place
