Sylvain Andilust

After the death of Gustavo Delroth, the human’s late governor, Sylvain has been the human’s appointed leader ever since. Sylvain currently stands as the human’s elected Council leader, and does all he can to follow in his late best friend’s footsteps. He is beloved by some. Utterly despised by others. All can respect and agree he gets results. Sylvain is charismatic, charming, empathetic, intelligent, and outspoken; all qualities of a perfect politician. He is a tall and somewhat lanky forty five year old man with stripes of gray in his long black combed back hair. Recently, he’s now commonly seen with bags under his eyes from lack of sleep and sporting bruises around his neck. These bruises are a recurring “gift” to him from Kril G'orloth, leader of the orcs. Whenever the topic is brought up, Sylvain casually laughs it off and boasts that it’s proof of their “friendship”.   In the year 1803, Sylvain was one of the ten thousand passengers spread across three human settler ships that had set sail to explore and colonize Argoll. He was a spry and bright-eyed twenty four year old with dreams of becoming a renowned banker. He saw the colonization of Argoll as an opportunity of a lifetime, but after all three settlement ships had been savagely torn apart upon reaching the coast of Argoll, Sylvain quickly discovered the gruesome new reality he had to survive. Sylvain witnessed firsthand the human population die down to only 500 survivors over the course of twenty years. After learning that the other races have suffered the same, Sylvain has become only more determined to do anything necessary to survive. With Gadael having a combined population of a measly 2000, it’s cooperate or die. This frail cooperation between the other races could be destroyed within a day, and as Sylvain sees it, it’s up to him to keep them together. Otherwise, the forest of Ersterwald will claim them all.   To keep communication between the other three races, Sylvain plays any role the situation calls for; he’ll drop to his knees and cry crocodile tears to the elves in order for them to cooperate with the gnomes, then turn around with a smile and lie straight to the gnomes faces that the elves were in agreement all along. Sylvain lies as easily and as consistently as he breathes, and has become a master at deception. Even his most obvious lies are believable due to how sincerely he speaks them. Due to his never-ending deceptions and two-facedness, all of the other council leaders despise him. He hopes that at the very least, the other races could unite in their hatred of him. In the event of the council leaders overthrowing and killing Sylvain, he already has planned ahead and has a handful of protegees ready to replace him at a moment's notice. They’d have to be elected into the position first, but Sylvain has already assured ways to rig this vote. Even if it costs him his life, if it meant solidifying the alliance between the four races and guaranteed the survival of his people, Sylvain would happy do anything for this cause.   Sylvain’s consistent winning strategy for keeping the peace between the four races is by taking advantage of everyone’s need for resources. He can just about strong-arm any of them to his will in when there’s the promise of desperately needed resources. He only acts this way to keep the four cooperating, even if it is done begrudgingly. The source of these invaluable resources? A secret storehouse Sylvain has set up with a band villagers he had written off as dead. He regularly has these “ghosts” act as thieves create the monopoly of resources he bargains with.   Not only does Sylvain have the the Dynol district's storehouse to keep supplied, but his secret one as well. He regularly acts upon a multitude of criminal-like schemes in order to scrounge up an actual surplus of resources to keep both of his storehouses stocked. From geniusly complex schemes such as slowly integrating a trade receipt system to watch the flow of goods throughout the district to simple and heinous schemes of such as just stealing the offerings the citizens of Dynol make to the dead at the memorial graveyard. In order to allow his band of thieves to move the stolen goods in and out of Gadael with ease, Sylvain has assured that the canals would remain unguarded at night. He pleads the case that because there’s no threat of monsters at the canals, why waste the needed manpower having it guarded. Sylvain doesn’t plan on keeping this storehouse a secret forever, but is rather waiting for the right time to reveal it. The moment there’s an actual possible plan to make an escape from Ersterwald, Sylvain has all the supplies needed to make it possible at the ready.   Another scheme Sylvain has managed to get away with over the years was developing and rigging a paperwork system that he can easily take full advantage of. He ends every council meeting with the signing of documentation that he can later present as evidence to abuse to bend all to his will and keep everyone in line. He uses this trick against not only the council leaders, but regularly on the humans of Dynol. Sylvain can assure any though that this is all for the betterment of Gadael. Nobody can argue this too; it has consistently worked and has kept Gadael working together somehow.   It’s been six years since the elves and humans had joined Gadael, but Sylvain feels that it’s only like yesterday that the four began cooperating together. Because of this lack of progress, Sylvain works tirelessly day in and day out to assure the survival of Gadael, even at the cost of his own health. Although he’s constantly collecting enough supplies, he can’t ever collect enough time to sleep. He’s recently taught himself how to sleep on command in hopes of combating this issue.
