Dynol - The Human District

Gadael is the fourth village the tortured humans of Esterwald have settled, with the district of Dynol being where they reside. With each village lost, followed the death of loved ones, destruction of homes, and the forfeiting of precious resources. Those who stayed to defend were the ones who perished. After enduring the loss of three prior villages, many have become afraid of becoming attached. It’s only natural that most would hesitate to properly settle. While there are some who have taken up residence and have started to build a new life for themselves, the majority of the district is underdeveloped and is little more than danky little wooden shacks. Most of these shacks have no furniture at all, but rather bedrolls, portable stoves, and knapsacks for storage. This way in the case of an emergency, the inhabitants can gather all of their belongings and be amongst the first to evacuate. Due to this district’s underdevelopment, thievery is a common occurrence.   Of the notable locations within the district, Dynol hosts the lumberyard, the canal, Delroth which is the district’s hall, the Dynol storehouses, a memorial graveyard, and Gadael’s guard barracks. The rest of the district is either filled with wooden shacks and a handful of cabins, or empty lots. It’s not uncommon to find a trader’s shoddily built stall hosted within a majority of these lots.   The lumberyard is where all of the village’s wood is collected, treated, and prepared. It is here where the architects and builders of Gadael gather and prepare for their construction projects. Even with a struggle between racial tensions, these carpenters seem to be in good company with one another. Most of these workers claim that having a project they all can work toward helps ease the tensions between one another. Something always needs to be repaired or built, so there’s no time for bickering anyway.   The canal is a popular fishing spot within Gadael and is used regularly by hunters for quick transportation down the river by boat. During the night, it is a common occurrence for the a band of thieves within the district to congregate here and ship off their goods by raft to their secret hideout. The canals are the only location left unguarded during the night in the district. Sylvain Andilust, the human’s leader, has argued that there is no immediate threat from monsters at the canal, and has placed no sentinels at the canal, leaving it completely unguarded. Although there have been whispers that some have seen Sylvain himself head towards the canal during moonless nights.   The guard barracks act more as a weaponry rather than an actual guard outpost. Most humans never let their preferred weapon of choice leave their side, and this constant paranoia led to humans developing an unnecessary obsession with weapon upkeeping. Due to it being the job of the Fighters Guild to guard and protect the village, the guard barracks see very little use from actual guards. Some human sentinels do make use of the barracks, but the barracks have little use besides weapon repairs, and are primarily there for peace of mind.   Towards the district’s center lies a crude stone statue of an angel, surrounded by headstones of the fallen. Due most casualties becoming unrecoverable after being claimed by the forest, less than ten bodies actually lie buried. Some claim they have seen robed figures deep within the night gathering in the graveyard, but none have made any official reports about these sightings.
