Lōahnir (LŌH'-nēr)

Lōahnir (he/him/his) is the Deity of the Ocean. His Divine Domains include Freedom, Healing, Life, Might, Nature, Passion, Tempest, Travel and Water.

History

Lōahnir's precise origin is unknown, but he is said to have arisen from the ocean in time immemorial. Despite the untamable strength of the ocean, he is known to show great mercy and rescue doomed sailors from the ocean's wrath or out of the jaws of creatures of the deep, taking them to reside on his home island of Tidesource.   He was a reluctant but influential member of The Divine Wars, initially joining the war when a now unknown deity created great earthquakes which caused tsunamis to sweep the globe. It was against this god that he took a stand, wielding his greatsword with the full fury of the ocean behind it. Though the Battle of Breaking Waves, as it is now called, lasted for several months and raised and felled islands, Lōahnir was eventually victorious, resulting in one of the first fatalities of the war. After that point, several good-aligned deities rallied behind Lōahnir. However, he was slow to join any battles after his first due to the devastation it wrought. As Mei-Wyn grew in power, he willingly ceded his leadership role to her, becoming a staunch supporter and easing her path to leadership of the War-ending truce.

Personality

Lōahnir is a kind deity who understands the veneration in which he is held and strives to remain worthy of it. However, he has an underlying side which is more mirthful than many know. It is said he created dolphins to represent his lighthearted spirit when he would otherwise have to maintain greater composure. Ever since the Battle of Breaking Waves, he is personally loath to fight and prefers finding peaceful resolutions to all conflicts where it's an option.

Appearance & Aspects

When manifesting an avatar, Lōahnir most often appears as an old but powerfully built human man, only somewhat taller than the average human. He has a tangle of white hair, a close-cropped white beard, and grey-blue eyes and wears a regal blue cape with a brass medallion clasp. He travels the Planes riding a horse named Eimear ("ĀY-mer") who can travel across water, over land, or under water with unwavering speed.   He also has the Aspect of Anafar; a whirling tempest within which dark eyes can occasionally be seen. Anafar is the unpredictable temper of the ocean and the buried strength of Lōahnir. Those who wish for a safe voyage sometimes pray to Lōahnir and give offerings to Anafar, hoping to ward off storms by appeasing the latter.

Relationships

Mei-Wyn

Lōahnir was one of the first deities to throw his support behind Mei-Wyn in an attempt to end the Divine Wars. He's remained a staunch ally ever since. It is said that their closeness is what leads the moon to affect the tides and allows stars to so effectively guide sailors.
