Mei-Wyn (MĀY-WIN)

Mei-Wyn (she/her/hers) is the Deity of Light. Her Divine Domains include Darkness, Dreams, Fire, Healing, Light, Moon, Perfection, Sun, Travel and Truth. Other aliases include "Night's Guardian" and "The Cold Moon."

History

Mei-Wyn is thought to originally be the embodiment of the silver moon. Through The Divine Wars, however, the gods of the sun and stars fell and she took up their mantles and came to represent all of the light in the sky. This positioned her as a leader and beacon of hope, causing her to be an emblem of sorts for many of the good-aligned deities. She eventually went on to lead the brokering of the truce that ended the Wars, garnering respect from all of the gods that remained.

Personality

Mei-Wyn is a compassionate and gentle god who is said to know no anger. Despite her vast power, she never uses it in wrath but instead as a matter of necessity. She is known to take pity even on mortals who do not worship her and will send them signs of hope to aid their perseverance through the trials of life.

Appearance & Aspects

Mei-Wyn is most often envisioned literally as the sun, moon and stars, but can also appear in visions as a beautiful elf robed in an elegant silver kimono. In the inner lining of the kimono, as well as anywhere shadows would fall on the goddess, the night sky is reflected.

Relationships

Though all of the deities are approximately equal in strength and influence, Mei-Wyn is sometimes thought of as their leader. Her calm but compassionate demeanor has brought her the respect and friendship of all good-aligned gods and even the gods with distaste for her only act covertly against her, knowing her favored position could cause other gods to enact revenge on her part.

Lōahnir

Mei-Wyn and Lōahnir have been firm allies since the time of the Divine Wars when Lōahnir, the de facto leader of the good-aligned deities at the time, put his support behind Mei-Wyn to broker peace. It is said their allyship is what leads to the moon affecting the tides of the sea, and lets stars so effectively guide sailors.

Followers

Those who follow Mei-Wyn are referred to as the Lambent while her high priests are called Luminaries. They maintain churches in many cities and, in cities with multiple religious factions, often take on the role of leading and maintaining peace between them.   There is a sect of Mei-Wyn's followers called Stoics who believe that "light," or virtue, can only be seen against "darkness," or suffering. Leaders of the Stoics can be recognized by the transformation of their eyes into pure darkness.

Tenets & Practices

Those who follow Mei-Wyn are expected to lead by example, never leading from the background. They are further encouraged to constantly pursue personal growth and enlightenment, wherever it may be found. Though righteous anger and defense are allowable in dangerous circumstances, Lambents are discouraged from regularly meeting enemies with anger, instead preferring to seek peaceful or merciful solutions whenever possible. Cruelty or inflicting deliberate suffering upon others is never permitted.   In addition to the above, Stoics teach that darkness does not inhibit light, but rather is necessary for light to exist and be noticed. In their own lives, they seek to master their emotions to prevent them from interfering in their duties. They also must face all tribulations without fear or complaint as trials are the "darkness" that reveals their "light," or inner strength. Some particularly zealous Stoics engage in ritualistic torture to strengthen their own resolves, despite Mei-Wyn's aversion to such.

Holy Symbol

The holy symbol of Mei-Wyn is a gold, four-pointed shooting star crossing a silver moon. Simpler depictions will often be made only of silver or sometimes more common silver-looking metals.
