Eriks Vumorath

Eriks is a triton from Vumor and a cleric of Lōahnir. He is fiercely loyal to his family and friends, kind to everyone he meets, and will protect those around him with every trick and tool at his disposal.

Identifying Characteristics

As a triton, Eriks stands out on The Material Plane. However, he can be further identified by his armband which serves as his spellcasting focus and denotes his devotion to Manannan mac Lir. He also keeps his hair perfectly quaffed.

Specialized Equipment

Eriks' weapon of choice is his Frostbrand Trident; however, he also makes frequent use of his Ring of Humanshape and Whip of Entanglement. His Sentinel Shield and Boots of Elvenkind offer him beneficial passive effects and, when he needs them, he can make use of his Chime of Opening, Alp's Cap, Stone of Evocation, or Scallop Shell Scrying Surface which he crafted with Bree's aid. He cherishes the Blessing of the Sea, received from Manannan mac Lir himself.

Personal history

Eriks was born in Vumor on Aquos. His was a family of healers with his father serving as a war medic and his mother and sister working as midwives. Eriks knew he would follow in his father's footsteps and join the city's guard, and he looked forward to taking part in the protection of his home.
A time came when some citizens who left the city began to mysteriously vanish, and as a result the city became somewhat more insular. But a Dragon Turtle attacked the city unexpectedly and, though it was eventually repelled, more people who weren't involved in the fight vanished. Among those who went missing were Eriks' mother and sister.
Eriks left Vumor, hoping to track down the missing, and eventually found a portal to Errindia which had not previously been present. Eriks decided to go through the portal, thinking it likely had something to do with the disappearances, and when he did he found himself emerging in Midland Lake.
Unsure of where to go, Eriks found himself in Lurecraft and agreed to escort Anna and Danna Reed back to Fargate. When he arrived, he met Olga, Seebo, and Adaon and with them, protected the Reeds from thuggish debtors. Seeing how well they worked together, Eriks decided to join the group.
After Aeos Eternal went their separate ways, Eriks oversaw the creation of a temple to Lōahnir near Breaker's Point before retiring to Ystriem Sirath where he and Thamior forged a successful romantic relationship. Over time, Eriks and Thamior raised five children named Maniel, Lothera, Xandra, Brēvora and Zeckiel, each named for someone to whom they were close.

Morality & Philosophy

In Ystriem Sirath, Eriks met Thamior who, as a cleric of a god unlike Eriks', intrigued him. He felt a connection that was strengthened as they discussed life and death, religion, and magic, and Eriks felt it could develop into a romantic relationship. He was devastated by Thamior's death in the battle against the drow and only felt worse when he was confronted for the first time by a situation in which he had the ability to return someone to life, but was discouraged from doing so. In his mind, there is no price too great and no reason not to save someone when the means exists.
Eriks decided to scry on his mother while attempting to locate her, and for some time afterwards felt helpless, seeing her in trouble and not being able to actively help. In the end, it strengthened his resolve to save others, especially his family, with every ability at his disposal.
In Miridock, Eriks met and befriended Jed. He intrigued Eriks, especially as they got to know each other better. As Eriks realized the ways Jed was being used by those Jed considered "friends," Eriks tried to find a way to help him see it for himself. However, Jed insisted sincerely that he was happy in his life, and believed those around him were true friends. Eriks had to grapple with the idea that some people not only cannot be helped, but may not even believe they need it in the first place.
Eriks grew especially close to the rescued centaur children Han and Hir which made parting ways with them that much more difficult. However, he was able to face the situation with maturity, confronting the fact that the right course of action is not always what feels best.
Unable to bear Thamior's death while possessing the power to change it, Eriks eventually resurrected him on a night in Ystriem Sirath. When Thamior was reunited with members of the city's leadership, they found he had no memories at all of his life prior to his death, or of what his soul underwent prior to resurrection. Eriks became distressed upon learning this, second guessing his actions and beginning to understand how it could have negative consequences.
In his encounter with The Banished Queen, she urged him to stand firm in the face of danger and give greater consideration to the longterm consequences of his actions—or inaction. He also learned Thamior's soul had been with her and, to repay her for what he'd taken, she demanded the entire party sacrifice some form of memories of their own. Eriks gave up his memories of Thamior due to the pain they now gave him.
Eriks strove to heed the goddess' admonitions from then on, becoming more willing to see dangerous circumstances through to their conclusions.

Motivation

He takes pride in his work and pushes himself to try and make those around him proud. Frustration sometimes gets the better of him, but most of the time it is from fear of disappointing others rather than disappointment in himself. Eriks wears his heart on his sleeve and often expects the same forthrightness from others. He will always go out of his way to save even one more person, believing each and every preventable or reversible death to be worth acting on.
