Saurin
A race of powerful, scaled humanoids, the Saurin have a deep appreciation for strength and resilience, and use brutally effective tactics to protect their allies in the Moonflow Jungle from external threats.
Although much of the Saurin society revolves around battle and protection of their Tribes, they are a rich, proud culture that values the accomplishments of their society. Most of their day consists of working together to hunt, forage, and strengthen their bodies. The defense and protection of the Jungle are the Saurins main priorities.
The entire race lives in a huge village around the birthing cave, deep in the Moonglow Jungle. The birthing cave is sacred to the Saurin, as they do not breed themselves. New eggs are discoverd in this cave, which they nuture with prodigious care, until these new eggs hatch into young, but not helpless Saurin. The Saurin live in peace with the Mungoo, and have a symbiotic relationship with them of friendship, protection and learning. Each treats the other like it is their duty to watch over the other.
Saurins love music. They make gigantic drums from the large beasts they hunt, and flutes and horns out the beast’s bones. During a full moon the Jungle is bursting with the sound of the Saurins Moon Pyre. This is a monthly time of rejoicing and revelry for the otherwise battle-ready and duty bound race. During this time the Saurin ingest the Goop Fruit. It is a glowing pod that only falls from the trees of the moonglow jungle after it has gone bad and has started to ferment. The glowing Goop of this fruit is a potent intoxicant and has been known to be harmful to injest recklessly.
The Rex leads the Saurin. He can only be succeeded by death or combat. The Saurin tribe in the Moonglow jungle is the Redclaw tribe. The current reigning Rex is Gog Redclaw, a Might Skarr with chipped scales, who wears the mark of the afterlife over his eye. He seeks counsel from Sek Ghostfang of the Swift Skarr (who also shares in the death mark), and Trong Irongut of the Boulder Skarr, who has never been bested in battle. Trong has not challenged Gog out of respect.
The Saurin believe the gift of being brought back from the dead is a gift given to the most noble warrior. Any Saurin who comes back from the dead wears a huge scar over their left eye to signify the accomplishment. They are also automatically promoted to leaders and guides of their Skarr.
The Saurins do not have a concept of the gods. Instead they worship aspects of the gods shown by their Ancestors. However it seems the gods will still grant power to a devoted ancestor worshiper if they show great zeal in the one of the following given aspects; Might and Vengeance, Law, Protection, Nurturing, Knowledge, Revelry, Strength through Sorrow, The Secrets of Shadows, Learning through the chaos of all things, Strength of the body and heart, Seeing beauty in all things, and Embracing the fate that is given.
Swift Skarrs are the hunters, the Boulders are the sentinels and the Might Skarr are the Smiths and Warriors. Although the examples given are their roles in the tribe, any Saurin along with keeping to theirs Skarr’s task may also be a Shaman or Lore keeper. Shamans practice a mixture of Blood, Hallow and Primal arts, and lore keepers record the great history and deeds of the Saurin in brilliant cave drawings on the birthing caves wall. It is said that some lore keepers have heard the birthing cave sing to them. Saurin have no separate military force due to the fact that every Saurin fights when they go to war.
