The Ley Physical / Metaphysical Law in Wayward Saga | World Anvil

The Ley

As a world ever in constant motion, flux, and turmoil, Erlyse is home to, and subject to, incredible cosmic energies and forces that all comprise the governing universe. Within the metaphysical structure of existence, there is a "lifeblood" of chaos and order that give these cosmic forces the power to operate and keep the universe in forward motion, without coming apart at the seams. This universal essence is titled the Ley, and it flows through everything, everywhere at all times. Yet, there is still an overlying 'grid' where these energies are stronger. Leylines are of course conduits of incredible forces, but it is where these leylines intersect that things get more interesting. These converging points often clash with one another based on what types of energies or forces their respective leylines are comprised of, and this clash typically results in a hotbed of energy that coalesce into a focal point known as a Ley Font.

The Ley is always in flux, always in motion, just like the universe it powers, and as such, leylines slowly meander through Erlyse's physical mass, creating changes of all sorts in the world, such as tectonic movement, effects on climates, migration of animals sensitive to the ley energies, and more. As these leylines move, so do any Ley Fonts that are bound to one of these leylines, and thus over time, a Font that formed deep in the core of the world can one day end up breaching the surface of the planet, and make itself discoverable by the mortal races which inhabit Erlyse. The chaotic, yet structured nature of the Ley also results in unpredictable interactions of the cosmic forces that flow within it.
