River Grimlow

(a.k.a. "Duplicity")

River is a well known empowered individual who is unaffiliated with R.I.S.E. despite the guild's recurring requests to enlist her as a member.  

Powers

  River’s main ability, and what she advertises her skills for, works as a form of transmutation that converts a set of reagents used as a sort of sacrifice, or offering, to change them into a copy of a designated target (be it an object, creature or person). The items needed are excessively varied for the different things River intends to copy, and always scale up in difficulty of acquisition and quantity based on other details. She, however, will always know just what reagents she needs for the task at hand, and typically how to acquire them unless they are a personal, one-of-a-kind item unique to a sentient being she is copying.
 
Scale of Difficulty/Rarity of Duplication:
  • Small Objects - Rocks, fruit, wooden effigies, or generally things placed in pockets not made of metal
  • Medium Objects - Non-metal trinkets, non-metal weapons (bows, clubs, etc), or other objects too large to fit into a pocket but still able to be carried by a person)
  • Large Objects - Anything not made of metal too large to be carried by a single individual (Wooden carts, small wooden buildings, stone altars, etc))
  • Lesser Metals - Lead, nickel, iron, copper, or tin objects of any kind or use. Tools, weapons and more fall in this category. The same reagents are needed for anything in this category, but quantities change based on size of the copied object. If a copied item has a magical effect, this effect is not present in the copy.
  • Premium Metals - Gold, silver, platinum, or mercury items. Typically duplication of these items requires a quantity or rarity of reagents that exceed the value of the copied item (thus making this ability extremely pointless for copying money or for finance bolstering).
  • Mimics - Copies of non-sentient beings (such as animals), which are physical like their more complex doppelganger versions, but are utterly incapable of harming other living creatures. However, River can otherwise control them through command. Therefore River is incapable of using them to serve as aid in a fight, but they can serve as spies or living alarms for trespassers near her wagon. Like her doppelgangers, they have a limited lifespan, but can often last longer. Common uses for these temporary allies are birds she uses to scout potentially dangerous regions or serve as sentinels for her campsite, temporary beasts of burden when she needs something heavy moved (such as fallen trees for resources), or as distractions/decoys for hostile enemies.
  • Doppelganger - Copies of sentient beings which are physical, can bleed, and retain memories of those they are copies of up to the point of being copied. Doppelgangers require the most reagents of any of River’s skills. No matter the circumstances, doppelgangers only live to a maximum lifespan of three to four days. River also cannot control these doppelgangers directly. She can only coerce them into following a predetermined compulsion she gives it during the creation process based on the types of reagents used to determine the doppelgangers purpose of existence.

Personal history

Descending from a family which called the village of Naphia home, River grew up in the hills northeast of Mourninghall in Osmya Fens with a mother who was vastly spiritual towards nature, yet quite a socialite. Her father left the picture before River was old enough to really know him, and it was soon after that her mother met a man named Japhet, who operated a traveling merchant shop best known for its healing salves and tinctures for remedying various maladies and did well despite the impossible competition from Rein Minhara, known as the hero "Apothecary".
Over time, River began to enjoy the idea of travel, thanks to her frequent delivery runs to bring Japhet's ordered items to customers once the creations had been made to order. This only grew stronger to the point she struck out on her own to explore Erlyse at her leisure. How and when she acquired her powers from a Ley Focus is still being determined, but River has repeatedly denied any offer to join R.I.S.E. after her abilities had been demonstrated and documented.
Currently she makes a living traveling the world, offering her services with her skills in duplication, which is her trademark ability, to various individuals who have a purpose she feels is worthy of her using it. Taking a page from her time working with her stepfather, having purchased an enclosed wagon which she uses like a portable home, River constantly moves from region to region, setting up shop outside of villages or cities and lingering for a few months at a time or until she is certain no one in town seeks or is worthy of her aid any longer.

Intellectual Characteristics

This blue haired, Altum vixen is a calm and collected individual, yet is excessively confident with herself and anything she pursues. River has embraced the lifestyle of the Parandi (Which are very similar to gypsies of Earth), and is very superstitious and spiritual. She is exceptionally altruistic, even willing to literally give someone the shirt off her back if she believed it to have better use in their hands than hers. While she’s not gullible, her generosity and selflessness is something others can easily take advantage of. This is something that her stepfather Japhet has been trying to work with her on. River can also be a bit materialistic and vain, as she is exceptionally fond of gold items and emerald gemstones, and loves to ‘look good’ under almost all circumstances, even if it is out of her control. While she doesn’t expect to be, or genuinely like being, the center of attention, she feels that she is her best self when she has the eye of others, whether they be citizens, allies, enemies, or prospective lovers.

Onyx and Slate, a pair of Sindlecotes (a form of direwolf like canine) which she uses as her wagon haulers, as well as deterrent for thieves, general protection purposes and day to day companionship. River's hobbies consist of:
  • Doll making (She makes miniatures of her friends, and often provides a custom one for anyone she has ‘duplicated’)
