Dragonborn
We are kin to dragons, servants of destiny. We bear the blood of ancient beings, who rule the sky and can see the horizon. We bear the visage of great scions of the Dragonfather and Queen. The world is ours to travel, and whatever cause we serve is sure to succeed. And so we pledge ourselves to you, Emperor, to see this new order rise.
Overview
Perhaps the most common of the "half-breed races" are dragonborn, and if one happens to believe this has something to say about dragonkind it is best to keep it quiet. Descended from dragons in ancient times, with many rumors about how, dragonborn can be said to have a lofty heritage to live up to. Taller than the average human, they range from broad and stout to slender and lithe. Dragonborn exist with both the chromatic range (red, blue, green, white, and black) and the metallic range (gold, silver, bronze, brass, and copper) of scale color; this is not necessarily an indication of whether they are good or evil - merely a hint as to where their lineage descended from. They do not have wings, even vestigal ones, though there are many rumors of experiments to strengthen the bloodline to acquire it. With temperaments and attitudes varying as easily and widely as humans, dragonborn are formidable adversaries or worthy allies. Sometimes both, in the same lifetime.Draconic Heritage
While the colors of scale are not necessarily an indication of good or ill intent, it does inform a few partial things about the dragonborn in question. It's not uncommon for a dragonborn of a particular scale type to favor climates similar to what their greater kin would enjoy, and to have vaguely similar subconscious desires. It would thus not be unthought of to find a red-scaled dragonborn taking their bath in scalding hot water, or a silver-scaled dragonborn laying in the snow while it fell.There is one greater aspect dragonborn have inherited from their forefathers: a form of breath weapon, usually linked to the type and hue of their scales. The various forms of elemental energies are represented here, each dragonborn retaining the same affinity throughout their lifetime and sometimes only perfecting how much or how little to expel at once. It can be a parlor trick to witness one lighting sticks on fire with small puffs of flame, or frosting over a drinking cup.
Homeland
Dragonborn are widely spread throughout the lands, but they remain uncommon sights all the same. Most other mortals tend to be uncomfortable around them, though elves and dwarves welcome those whose natures or interests align with their own. Beyond this, it isn't hard to find dragonborn congregating in places known to be strongly connected to arcane mysteries or draconic history. More often they are found among those attempting to carve order from chaos in the wild places of the world.Favored Deities
Dragonborn are predictably drawn to deities similar to dragons, following either the Dragonfather or the Queen of Scales. It is not unheard of for them to align with other deities, however, so long as their personal philosophies match and align with the deity in question. Like many things dragonborn put themselves to, following a deity means it can be readily assured they are staunch supporters and ardent defenders of the faith.
