Fluttering Mosaics

Located in Mistral, Fluttering Mosaics is a restaurant with an interesting twist. The interior walls of the underground dining rooms are actually Butterfly terrariums, filled with a large variety of colourful species, along with a vast array of flowering plants. These terrariums stretch from the floor to the ceiling and beyond, all the way to the garden above. During the night, the light from within the restaurant creates the look of a glassy river throughout the restaurant's property, and during the day the upper glass of the terrariums brings in natural light to the restaurant below through the frosted glass. The beautifully decorated habitats create what can seem like a maze for the restaurant's floor plan, allowing both large open spaces, and more private tables for those that request it.

Aside from the interest in eating dinner while enjoying the sights of butterflies flying behind the glass, Fluttering Mosaics is most famous for the romantic atmosphere they work to curate. The gardens above the restaurant are often booked for weddings, and many a famous couple have planted their wedding tree within its soil. For the actual dinner, Fluttering Mosaics has some of the best chefs in the Earthren capital, and the food is designed to be an artwork on its own. From beautiful tableware, to the candy butterflies placed on top of the fruit salads, everything off the menu works to capture the beauty of the butterflies that are so close to the restaurant's patrons.

Reservations must be booked well in advanced, and bribes are not accepted (although plenty have tried, and been reported to the Local Forces). Fluttering Mosaics would like to remind all of their prospective patrons that they are a business that operates in firm adherence to Earthren law.

Due to the hurdle of acquiring a reservation, few of the people dining at Fluttering Mosaics are on first dates, unless one of the couples preemptively reserved a table. Along with the high cost, it invites those with more wealth, and those that have saved up for an especially special morning.

To maintain their romantic atmosphere designed for those celebrating special occasions, the dress code asks that patrons dress to impress. Juveniles are allowed if with accompanying adults, however, younger patrons are only allowed when part of a private party using one of the private dining rooms.

The Experience

Walking up to the restaurant, is a small path that slopes down to the entrance of the restaurant. The gardens are visible, and are a beautiful sight, even looking through the fence that prevents non-patrons from exploring the space. Although none of the frosted glass is near the main road that the restaurant sits beside, before sunrise one can see the path of light shining onto the nearby adjacent plants in the distance. Entering the double doors, one is greeted by the host, their reservation confirmed, and then escorted down to their table.

Tables are coated in a light lilac table cloth, with green fabric dining chairs, with light wooden legs. Dishes are set out on the table for you, the black plates glimmering with the lights from either the chandelier or the sparking lit up terrarium beside the table. The glassware is pure crystal, and the cutlery plated with Gold. Cloth periwinkle napkin sitting beside the plates. In the centre of the table is a seasonal centrepiece, flowers and crystalline butterflies. Real butterflies flying around and landing on the various flowering plants just beside you as you sit down. Handed leather-bound menus, with the seasonal offerings, by the waiter.

The menu contains various starters, mains, desserts, and a full list of wines, cocktails, and other nonalcoholic drinks. The bar offer custom drinks as well, if you have a special request. Each ingredient is as locally sourced as possible, many of the herbs coming from the gardens right above you. As such, the menu is always seasonal. The kitchen is visible through the glass and butterflies, if your table is nearby. The music is classical, and kept low, and a general sense of remaining at a moderate volume hovers over the guests, allowing easy conversation. Even as people's eyes look around at the different sights as the butterflies fly through the maze like terrarium that winds about the place. Creating alcoves for more private tables and more couch like booths.

Your meal comes, each part expertly crafted to look like a piece of nature. From mimicking foliage, to crystals, to the butterflies themselves, each is beautiful in their own rights. They taste amazing, and are sensory as well as high level flavours. Each dish starts a conversation.

At any point during the course of the morning, it is not unlikely that a woman will get down and propose to her lover. That is the magic of Fluttering Mosaics, after all.

History

Perhaps one of the most interesting facts about a restaurant as famous for romance as Fluttering Mosaics is, is that the restaurant did not set out with that as their goal. Marianne Cormier started the restaurant as an attraction for families, with the main flair of the restaurant being the butterflies, without the focus on food or on setting. However, a member of the judicial council chose the venue as the location for her wedding. Booking the entire venue, the bride's well off mother was not a fan of the level of service or food that was being served. Not wanting her daughter's wedding, nor reception to happen at such a 'novelty low class venue'. With a large cheque and an agreement that the couple's wedding tree would be planted in the small gardens, Marianne agreed to have her own staff leave, and allow the family to bring in their own to work in the space for the event.

The wedding went off without a hitch. Photo after photo taken of the beautifully set up venue, professional staff, and high class food. High class guests and plenty of reporters were present. As such, word was quickly published of the high class restaurant that the couple was married in. Almost immediately the restaurant was flooded with requests, as people assumed the reporter's notes were the truth, and wanted their own weddings or special occasions hosted at the same place. Seeing the opportunity, Marianne quickly jumped to take advantage of it. Closed mysteriously to the public, Fluttering Mosaics either let its current staff go or repurposed others. The success of this deceptive plan came from Marianne managing to convince the sous' chef that the bride's mother had brought in. Fransien Oemes joined, seeing potential in the plan, but probably saw even more with the large amount of money Marianne offered.

The restaurant reopened with much excitement, the experience the guests had heard so much about made genuine. Over the years, that gardens above would fill with lover's trees. Eventually it would become known that two Royals had come to the restaurant for one of their many dates, and their proposal occurred at Fluttering Mosaics. Though the wedding was held at the Palace, it did not go unnoticed that Fluttering Mosaics catered the event.

A beautiful experience

Everything you've ever heard of this place is true! The butterflies are wonderfully enchanting, fluttering all beside your table. It's like getting to enjoy an amazing meal in the tropics, but without the flies landing on your food. Our visit here made my 10th anniversary with my husband all that more special, even if he didn't quite understand that artistic design of some of the dishes. What could certainly be appreciated by us both was the taste. Nothing compares! I've already reserved us a table for our next anniversary.

Old Fashioned Practices, but Modern Flavours

My promise and I decided to come to celebrate our 5th year as a couple. And how could one resist trying this place at least once? The food was beautiful, and my boyfriend was amazed by all the species of butterflies they had. Including some he hasn't spotted on his research trips, which made the dinner all that much better to get to watch how he lights up when speaking about his studies... Even if most of it goes over my head. The meal itself was delicious, with a mix of flavours that I had never expected. So goal accomplished! The only downside was that the staff were very traditional; Only referring to me when asking about the meal or what to order, expecting me to pay... It's the 4210's, could you at least help me make my boyfriend feel special rather than an afterthought?

A Stunning Experience

It's hard to put into words just how beautiful this place is. You really have to go yourself! The staff was incredibly helpful to make sure that my Promise was presented my offering gem perfectly. They put the most stunning, handcrafted crystal butterfly on top of it, and dressed the plated in dazzling flowers! His whole face lit up in amazement as they served it alongside our deserts! And they let us keep the butterfly as a keepsake (with no extra charge). If you're looking for a place to pop the question to your promise, this is the place! Just have to be patient to get a spot.

Good Views and NOTHING ELSE

So yes, it is pretty. But I could NOT STAND the staff. ALL I wanted was some adjustments made to my meal. And then ALL of a sudden it's 'not guaranteed about the taste of this' and 'the chef is unable to accommodate that'. I did not pay 148 each to be told what I can or cannot change about MY meal. After having to call the managers, I got a few more of my changes added to my order. But they still refused others, giving me the same shit that 'the chef is unable'.... BLAH BLAH BLAH. They said they 'would ask', but I doubt they did. Instead, I got the meal without those changes, and was forced to pick out all the disgusting ingredients out of my meal. My husband was so shocked at how I was treated that he didn't say a word for the rest of the week. Do not recommend!

Great at Accommodations!

As all the other reviews have mentioned, this place is stunning! But what I feel I need to highlight is how accommodating the staff were at switching over our reservations to a larger table, just a month after the original reserved date. I had planned to propose to my promise here... But he beat me to it (This is what I get for trying to surprise him...) Instead they were able to get the whole family in to have a great dinner, enjoy the view, and complete the final negotiations for the wedding (Having him take my name totally makes up for not getting to propose.) So thank you again! We love the handcrafted butterfly pen you gave us to sign the contract!

A disgusting cesspit of bestiality!

I came to have a wonderful meal at a well esteemed establishment. And I thought this place would be somewhere, where I could enjoy good Earthren decency. Instead, as my colleagues and I were delivered our meals, I noticed such a wretched act of indecency that I would not eat a single thing without gagging it up. I demanded that the staff remove the disgusting patrons, but instead they told me that 'there was nothing wrong', and that 'the restaurant does not discriminate'. Such disgusting behaviour! I was forced against my will to be subjected to a woman engaging in the act of bestiality right behind our view of the butterflies! She even kissed the beast! There were Juveniles in this restaurant, for Tianna's sake! And everyone in this failure of a restaurant just let it happen! I have filled a complaint with the Health and Safety Board, since obviously this venue is contaminated by whatever diseases those things carry. Never coming back. You should repent, and commit yourself to true Earthren Values. Or else you'll face Tianna's judgment.
