Brandus

Brandus (a.k.a. "The Light's Hammer", "The protector")

Brandus is the dwarven god of Protection, Vigilance and Vengance. He is dwarven both in the sense of his appearance, but also due to the vast majority of his followers are dwarves.   Brandus, as mentioned before, takes on the appearance of a dwarf. However, Brandus is missing both his right eye and hand. In some depictions of him, he still has both his hand and eye, holding a shield in his left hand and massive warhammer in the his right. In other depictions his missing hand can be a stump, a spectral hand, or the hand is replaced with the head of his warhammer.   While part of the Faith of the High Seven, Brandus is only seen as a lesser god due to his relative lack of power compared to the members of the high seven.   Brandus takes on the role of a protector and guardian to his followers who takes it upon himself to rid the world of evil, however he can usually only do this indirectly as his main role in the pantheon is to guard the entrances to the seven hells to prevent any evil spirits breaking free and entering either the gods' domain or the material plain.   Brandus' worshipers often pray to him when they are in need of protection, both from evil or from a more physical threat. This is most prevalent when it comes to perpetration for a battle, especially in Vogrhia where the dwarven cities usually invite people who do not usually worship Brandus to join in prayer to protect the warriors who are preparing for battle. Some of these rituals can include blessing each warrior individually, or singing songs of triumph to motivate the warriors. The latter is sometimes done even if the warriors are not present at the ritual.   More on the Priesthood of Brandus can be found by following the link where we go in to the priesthood and the order of paladins that serve Brandus.     Relationships Gorm considered Clangeddin Silverbeard, Marthammor Duin and Moradin his closest friends. He had confided his dying status only to them.

History

Brandus has, at times helped defend the world against those who wish to do it harm, both in the material plain, or the realm of the gods. He lost his right arm and eye single-handedly (no pun intended) defending one of the gates to the seven hells from a group of demons and devils who were trying to break in to the realm of the gods to take over. The sacrifice that Brandus made to protect others is what is taught to his clerics and paladins, teaching them that they must be willing to give up anything in order to protect those who can not protect themselves.

History

Brandus is not always sure the best way to gain vengeance on those who have wronged the world. In these times, he seeks the advice of the god of Justice, who advises him on how to proceed. Brandus then, normally either acts, or sends a vision to one of his paladins.
