Priesthood of Brandus

Worship

The clerics of Brandus are most often seen in public when worshipers pray to him for protection for themselves, loved ones or their homes in perpetration for a battle, especially in Vogrhia where the dwarven cities usually invite people who do not usually worship Brandus to join in prayer to protect the warriors who are preparing for battle. Some of these rituals can include blessing each warrior individually, or singing songs of triumph to motivate the warriors. The latter is sometimes done even if the warriors are not present at the ritual.

Daily Rituals and routine

Clerics of Brandus have a routine of praying for spells in the morning, usually followed by a tour of their community to ensure that no incidents happened at night. Normally a Paladin will accompany the cleric for protection and assistance in any incidents the pair discover. Assuming there have been no incidents and all is well, the cleric and paladin will return to the temple where the cleric will tend to the temple for the rest of the morning, cleaning and maintaining the areas of worship, making sure things are presentable. The clerics then prepare their mid-day meal, always making more than they need in case anyone in need comes to eat. Any uneaten food is kept for a future meal, or donated to people who the priesthood know might need. The rest of the afternoon is devoted to study before an evening meal is prepared. The evenings are devoted to maintaining the rest of the temple, socializing and outreach before returning to bed.

A paladin's daily routine starts off in a similar manner to the clerics, where they inspect their local community for any incidents that happened the previous night, however during the day, paladins are usually stationed in key areas to act as guards or are sent on protection details.

During the night, in small to medium temples of Brandus, there is usually one cleric and two paladins stationed as a night watch, staying vigilant in case of any obvious local disturbances or in case of anyone coming to the temple seeking protection.

Priesthood

The priesthood of Brandus is known through out the world of Erilar as a group of protectors. The priests are known to welcome the homeless and downtrodden into their temples and some times even their homes. The temples are seen as safehouses for those in need, and it is rather rare to find a temple of Brandus with its doors locked.   The priesthood itself is split into two distinct, inter-working parts, the clerics and the paladins.

The Clerics

The clerics of Brandus are tasked with spreading the word and faith of their chosen god. They teach those who will listen the values of being vigilant and alert, helping others protect themselves. They are often seen as care takers who help those who need protection with basic care and healing until it is safe to transfer those in need to more specialized carers.

The clerics all have training in basic weapons and armour, as well as being able to fight in unarmed combat. This is never used in an offensive manner and is only used to protect those in need. Anything that needs more muscle, the clerics shall call for reinforcements in the form of the Paladins of Brandus

The Paladins

The Paladins of Brandus are an order of holy knights that are apart of the priesthood. They serve as the outward face of the faith and are seen as the spiritual right hand of Brandus himself, acting on his behalf.

The paladins are tasked with protecting the innocent and are often hired to protect travelers, pilgrims and others who may be vulnerable to attack. The paladins have been hired to protect small villages and are even hired on a temporary basis to bolster numbers in town guards. When given people or areas to protect or watch over, the paladins will do so with their lives, making sure that no harm comes to their charge, as long as the paladin is drawing breath.

If a paladin of Brandus is killed in battle protecting others, this is seen as the highest honour they can bring upon their church and themselves. The paladin's remains will be taken back to the temple where they first became a paladin where a piece of their weaponry or armour is displayed proudly in the temple for as long as the temple stands. Their bodies will be entombed beneath the temple, and if there is no body, weapon or armour to recover, a statue is erected in their stead outside of the temple.

The paladins are seen as the shield of the people, but also the hammer of Brandus. Occasionally, Brandus will give a paladin, and on rarer occasions a cleric, a vision of someone or something who has performed an injustice against the world and will then be charged by their god to deal vengeance upon those who have wronged this world. The paladin is left to decide what they feel is justice at the time, as things are usually not as black and white as they first seem.
