Bannesfield
Guilds and Factions
Sorcery runs strong in the Redmane bloodline, Danadus himself was a renown Sorcerer, and as such the Imperial Mage Guild has a heavy presence in the prefecture. There is a guild house in all of its largest towns, with their second largest guild house in the empire being in Shaleport. This has intertwined the guild in nearly all aspects of Bannesfield's political landscape.
The Greenwater Coursers have always been financed, recruited, trained, and housed by the extremely wealthy Redmane family directly. Many of the Coursers' leadership are minor nobles or landed knights, and all share some percentage of Redmane blood. Their prestige is so great Brian Redmane abdicated the title of Duke in favor of one day being Lord-Commander of the Coursers. It's a great honor to be a Courser, and its warriors are all highly respected throughout the Empire.
The Arbor Company is a trading company that was established by Brynan Redmane three hundred years ago and has become completely integral to he Redmane's family wealth, the prefecture's economy and much more. There are whole towns on the prefecture's borders that only exist because the Company has business in the area.
History
Bannesfield was one of the earliest territories claimed by the Redheart clan during Lavius' Conquests and has been an important part of the kingdom ever since. Bannesfield's capital, Shaleport, briefly served as the capital of Kingdom of Lete during the Ruining, a period of decline caused by the Bloody Miasma, a great plague that swept through the kingdom starting in the year 614. When King Thanadir III Redheart moved the capital back to Heartsport he formed the Duchy of Bannesfield, and gifted the lands and title to his cousin and most trusted adviser, Danadus the Redmane.
The province has two large cities, and a few large towns. It is littered with ancient ruins and structures. Its biggest population centers are all built on the ruins of older towns. Shaleport itself has existed in some form for more than 2,000 years. The city takes its current name from the ruined remains of an ancient port across the river from the current, modern one. Many of the docks were, and are, reinforced with large slabs of shale and slate.
