Donachie Character in Ereza | World Anvil

Donachie

The son of Joran, god of balance, and Bernice, god of knowledge, he is the god of math and rules, and as such banking falls under his purview.   Donachie is a member of the third tier of the Seese Pantheon- divinities not created directly by Seese. Some of his euphemisms include: Golden One, The Counter, Levon.
Good fortune to you and yours, but not my fortune.
The heart of Donachie's worship is located in the Free City of Donachie; he is the only tertiary god to have a Free City in his name- exceptions always seem to be made for great wealth. All of Donachie's temples are also banks, however, the Central Bank in the Free City is the largest by far.

Clergy

The Chairperson is the highest rank of Donachie's clergy, followed by Mathematicians, Bankers, Calculators, Tellers   Laypeople usually refer to them all as Bankers.   Bankers and Tellers run the financial side of the temples, while Mathematicians and Calculators oversee the more religious aspects of worship. Calculators also travel to rural areas to teach mathematics to the people- and remind them to save.

Impact on Secular Society

All bank accounts are kept by weights in copper, silver, and gold; this keeps losses from shaving coins on the patron, er parishioner. The Bankers of Donachie do not care for the practice among the common people of cutting copper coins into 4 pieces for smaller purchases, and they have any deposited pieces reforged into whole coins- very often through the Pelesian Government as they already have an agreement with them for re-minting their silver and gold coins (5 and 6 Points) as old effigies are constantly needing to be updated with the royal line.   Merchants can purchase weights through the temple if they believe they are having a problem with shaving, or even if they are just overly cautious. Using false weights is a severely punished by the church, who reserve judgement in these matters as opposed to handing the criminals over to Joran's Justices.
