Andi's Goodbye

The first born granddaughter of Queen Andora *Dora, by less than a minute, Lady Andora *Andi, First Daughter of House Andora, is the older of Dorean's twin daughters.   Andi and her sister, Dorathy, were raised with the other Ladies at the palace in Roseholm along with the queen's own children. Her sister thrived in the strict environment, but Andi found it suffocating. She struggled under the weight of everyone's expectations, she chaffed at the rules and oversight, and she longed for freedom. When Andi was 17 she couldn't take it any longer; she ran, leaving nothing but a note for her sister.
Dearest Sister,   I wish I could stay. I wish I could do this, could be strong like you, but my Spirit is dying. I am being ground into dust, and every day I feel a little less myself, a little less a person.   It isn't fair to put this on you. I know that by leaving they will look to you, that I am shifting my responsibilities to your shoulders, but I have to. You are amazing in ways I could never be. You have it in you to do this, and I just don't. It should have always been you. Maybe I just want to believe that for my own piece of mind, but I do. I truly believe you are made for this.   Please, please don't hate me. Although I will never see you again, you are a part of me, and we will always be together in my heart. I hope one day you will find it in your heart to forgive me.
— Andi

Historical Details

Public Reaction

Andi's abdication of her duties shocked Pelesian society. Duty to the family is at the core of their values. First Daughters are the very hands of the Royal Family, and to abandon the honorable duty of leading their people, their extended family, is anathema to them. Queen Andora received the throne through abdication 40 years prior, but in that case, Princess Azalee had done so because she was biologically incapable of fulling the role. It was an act of bravery and sacrifice for her people to step aside for Dora; the very opposite of what Andi did.
