Faction Hierarchy
Each Faction has certain positions and responsibilities that must be fulfilled by players. The holders of these positions are all elected by a Faction's membership. These positions, their responsibilities, and how they come to power are as follows.
Elections
When a Faction Role must be filled, the players come together for an election. Elections can be held in RP channels or the Faction's Private Channel and are overseen by Brews in the following format.
- When a Faction Role opens up, Brews will inform the Faction the spot needs to be filled.
- Faction members can submit themselves as candidates to fill the position and attempt to sway votes in their favor.
- Votes are given publically in the Faction RP channel or sent privately to Brews.
- Whoever receives the most votes claims the position.
Out-of-character abuse that violates Living Erenel player behavior rules will result in immediate removal of leadership positions.
Faction Roles
The following roles must be filled by players for the Faction to exist. If a Faction goes 72 hours without filling a vacancy, the Faction enters Turmoil. If a Faction goes one full
Fireside 20 Update Stream without filling its vacancy, it immediately disbands.
Faction Leader
The highest ranking within the Faction, the Leader embodies the Faction's values and makes important decisions. The Leader has the final say on Faction Campaign decisions and can change a Faction's Status when recruiting new members.
Faction Quartermaster
The Quartermaster commands the Faction's wealth-based assets and monitors the Faction Bank in FoundryVTT.
Faction Ambassador
The Ambassador acts as a liaison between other factions and is commonly seen as the "face." When factions must come together to make important decisions, all Faction Ambassadors are called to discuss options in roleplay environments or participate in roleplay adventures.
Faction Members
All players in the Faction that are not a Leader, Quartermaster or Ambassador, are Faction Members.
Faction Influence
Your Influence represents your Faction’s impact and activity level in Living Erenel. A Faction gains Influence by performing major tasks that follow the Faction’s values, progressing the state of Living Erenel and completing important events.
As you gain Influence and demonstrate yourselves as worthy of the Faction’s cause, your Faction NPCs will reward your Faction with benefits and upgrades. However, if you lose Faction members or tarnish your reputation, you can lose Influence.
All Influence is awarded organically by Brews and displayed on each Faction’s World Anvil article. If a Faction enters turmoil from a lack of leadership, it is unable to earn Influence. A disbanded Faction returns to zero Influence.
Examples of ways to earn Influence
- Be among the first to defeat an Archway Raid
- Participate in a Faction Ambassador Roleplay Meeting
- Have the most Faction Members present in a Living Erenel Adventure
- Recruit a new Faction Member
- Discuss as a Faction before making
Examples of ways to lose Influence
- Inactivity in cross-faction storyline discussions
- Lose a Faction Member
- Fail a Faction Campaign Adventure
- Go a full update without a Faction Member playing in an adventure
Spending Faction Influence
When spending Faction Influence, the Faction Leader can post in #crafting-log what they want to purchase from the list below. As the player level range increases and the Living Campaign advances, more reward options will become available.
At the beginning of a new Living Erenel season, all faction influence returns to 0, making it wise to spend all remaining Faction Influence at the end of the previous season.
Leaving a Faction
A player can pledge allegiance to one Faction. To change Factions or become a Lone Wolf, the player must properly leave their current Faction. This involves notifying Brews who will remove your Faction tag and broadcast to the player base your departure. No sneaky spies!
Players can also be removed against their will from a Faction with a Removal Vote.
During a Removal Vote, all Factions members may vote except the player being voted on. If 2/3 of the Faction vote for removal, the player is forced to leave. Brews may override a 2/3 vote if he believes it’s an unjustified removal.
If a player voluntarily or involuntarily leaves a Faction, they cannot join a new Faction until the next Fireside 20 Update Stream and lose any faction boons.
Faction Size
A Faction can have a maximum of 8 players. A Faction needs at least 5 players to start a Faction Campaign Adventure.
A Faction without enough players to fill the leader, quartermaster and ambassador role faces turmoil and will be disbanded and deactivated as discussed under
Faction Roles.
Faction Status
The Faction Leader can set a Faction’s Status to accept or deny new players during character creation. To set a Faction Status, the Faction Leader must notify Brews, who will broadcast the status to the player base. The following Faction Status options are available.
Open
Anyone can join the Faction during Character Creation or when Leaving a Faction, up to the Faction’s player limit.
Closed
No players can join the Faction during Character Creation or when Leaving a Faction.
Private
Only players personally invited by the Faction Leader or Faction Ambassador can join the Faction during Character Creation or when Leaving a Faction.
Faction Campaign Adventures
Each faction with a minimum of 5 members can participate in a unique faction campaign. A faction's campaign stretches out over the entirety of Living Erenel 2023 and is dictated by the faction's decisions during the campaign. Note the following when participating in a faction campaign.
A faction needs at least 5 members in it to activate a Faction Campaign
Faction Campaigns are broken into episodes with a maximum of 2 episodes per season.
Even thou you need 5 members in your faction to start a Faction Campaign, you do not need all players in the episode to be from your faction. If a faction member cannot make a date, you can invite other players from different factions to help!
Outside faction members must be invited by the Faction Leader or Faction Ambassador into the game via roleplay or out of character chat.
A Faction needs majority in the adventure to run a Faction Campaign episode (3 of 5 players)
Faction Campaign Episodes are uploaded to the Gamingbrew YouTube under a separate playlist. That way, after a Faction completes its 2 episodes in a season, they can look back to see where the story left off once a new season begins.
Completing Faction Campaigns each season is how your faction unlocks its boons!
To lock in a Faction Adventure
Only the Faction Leader can lock in a session slot for a Faction Adventure. They must claim a session slot by posting in #group-up to do so. As always, it's first come on players creating session slots, with an individual player being able to only make one forum post per update.
There's also a Faction Tag you can slap on a post in #group-up
If all slots are taken, and a faction REALLY wants to try and do a faction campaign episode – the faction should try diplomacy. However, other players are free to help or refute you.
It pays to build relationships and be a player others enjoy partying with in a Living World!
Best Practices
Put "Faction Campaign" and your faction in the title so others know the session slot's intent.
Living Erenel rewards engagement between factions. If you let it be known to other factions you really want a certain day for a faction campaign – you might find they let you make the post.
Looking for reasons to make treaties? Consider treaties to help one another complete faction adventures. Each faction campaign is filled with story and roleplay events.
