Session 13 Report

General Summary

There was some activity via email prior to the session starting. Both Kharos and Mueller learned that seeking information openly about the Old Gods is not always welcome or entertained.   Thrall publicly tried to get a holy symbol of Korock the Destroyer specifically made out of dwarf bone/hair. Once the group realized this, Braylin and Kharos talked to Thrall and dissuaded him from continuing.   After a few days of down time which included shopping, crafting, whoring, smoking halfling weed and the like, the group was ready to move on. Upon departing the city they were greeted by a half-elf and his hirelings. Dannal spoke with the group about hiring them on to be his guards as he was moving his tailor shop from The City of Wayhill to Enbrook .   Once the party seemed somewhat agreeable, he asked Thrall to help him with a chest, at which time, out of site of the rest of the group he charmed Thrall. The group agreed to serve as guards up to the point where they would have to travel different ways.   On the second day of travel the group was approached by a group of riders that turned out to be a patrol from the city. They were looking for Dannal, who somehow managed to disappear. In his place a gnome who called himself Mondell appeared. The gnome was able to pull a similar trick as he had with Thrall and shortly after some discussion the patrol decided to leave the caravan alone and return to Wayhill.   The group was of course curious to discover why Dannal was being sought after by officials from Wayhill but he was not very forthcoming with information. He answered questions evasively and with half truths or not at all. Eventually Kharos returned his pay and walked off but then was persuaded by the group to stay and they all agreed to make sure Thrall was not left alone with the trickster.   The groups travelled in the same direction but not in each other's company. Thrall however did join with them in merriment at a Waystations and things seemed to be at least civil between the two groups.   On the morning of their parting Braylin was caught trying to put a note in the other groups caravan. Thrall was given a loincloth embroidered with the unholy symbol of Korock.   After another day and half of travel the group arrived in the sleepy town of @Kingsholm. They were greeted by a farmer who gave them directions to the Coronet and Cabbage Inn . Not long after they were settled in, were they swept up in the town's drama.   The previous day, a family went to the local graveyard with the intention of preparing a recently deceased member of the family for internment. Early the next day, the family's servant reported them all as missing. At this time the town sent two of their watch known as 'Sentinels' to investigate. As of early afternoon they have not returned.   The group is asked to investigate by the owner of the inn (Ian Turbrand) as well as two other members of the town council, Mia (watch commander) and Gran Stoutbrace (dwarf elder). Ian offers to pay the group out of his own pocket. 50gp each to find out what happened to the family and the sentinels, and 250 more (each) if they bring whomever caused the disappearances to justice.   With no hesitation the group eagerly decides to investigate. Mia leads them to the gate of the cemetery but will go no further. She indicates that it is a bad sign that the gate was left open.   The party heads into the old but very well cared for cemetery. As they follow the gravel path to the mausoleum where the missing family was supposed to be they discover what appears to be two bodies on the steps and the door to the crypt open! Thrall rushes forward to investigate but is beset by two HUGE wolves that blast him with cold air and then engage the group in battle.   After a few tense moments the group is able to drive the wolves off into the fading daylight. Upon investigation it turns out that the bodies on the steps belong to the two sentinels, a male dwarf and a human woman.   Thrall wants to decapitate the dwarf's body but (wait for it) cooler heads prevail (groan). Mueller investigates the bodies and determines that they were not killed by the wolves but rather that the dwarf was bludgeoned to death while the woman was killed by arrows.   There is a trail of blood that leads into the mausoleum and it is determined by Sima that the bodies were killed inside and the wolves found them there and dragged them outside.   Futher investigation reveals a ring of keys stuck in a doorway on the far side of the entry chamber that seem to lead deeper into the structure. Opening the doorway reveals narrow stairs that lead down into the ground beneath the cemetery. Firelight flickers at the chamber at the end of the stairs.   Thrall leads the way as the group descends. Here they find a well lit chamber with several stone tables on both sides of a long room. There is a woman's body on the floor and the body of a middle-aged man and an old man laying on the tables. Something stirs deeper in the room around the corner.   As Thrall moves forward the two bodies on the table shambled to life. Also the sound from deeper in the room was revealed as several skeletons came from around the corner of the room. After a relatively easy battle, the group began to investigate. Several of the vaults that lined the walls of the room had been opened and desecrated. Another door exiting the room headed to the east, but before that could be investigated it was discovered that one of the vaults had been nailed shut with pitons.   Thrall tried to force it open but was unsuccessful. At this point a slapping sound was heard from within and Thrall turned to Doom Hammer to break the door open. Inside the vault a young girl was hiding. She had crawled inside when her family was attacked and the attackers nailed her inside. She is in shock and unable to give much information. The group decided to lead her back to town.
