Waystations
It is a common practice for Waystations to exist on routes between larger towns and cities in Erellion. These simple inns provide fresh water, food, and lodging but only for a night (sometimes two in extreme circumstances). The fee for lodging, including three meals (hot dinner and breakfast and a packed meal for the road) and one beverage other than water (dinner and breakfast) is generally 3 sp per person. This price is standard and usually non-negotiable. Feed and care of horses is 1 sp per day per head and includes stabling, food and water, brushing, etc. Some Waystations have basic smith facilities so a mount can be re-shod if needed.
It is frowned upon to stay in a Waystation for longer than one night, as they are set up to accommodate travelers and not for longer stays. Generally they just have a common room where everyone can sleep although some of the better known ones do have private rooms for a larger fee.
It is also frowned upon for common tavern behavior to occur in a Waystation. Bards do not perform, gambling usually does not occur and drinking to excess is heavily frowned upon. It is simply meant to be a place to rest for the night while traveling.
Crimes against the proprietors of a Waystation are taken very seriously. It is considered one of the highest crimes and any kind of violent crime is punishable by death.
Generally Waystations are staffed by a family and it is custom to give them tips based on the number of people working there, a copper or two for each. This tends to lead towards Waystation families being large independent units.
