Great Austral Delta

The Great Austral Delta, the delta of the mighty river Appius which drains the entire region of Hespial. The Great Austral Delta is a diverse landscape of swamp, fertile pastures, heath, some moorland and tidal flats. The region stretches from the southern shore of Lake Balonas to the fabled Abbey of Monsallorea, a splendid pilgrimage site set atop a rock on a tidal pensinsula that not only gets accessible by ebb but is occasionally submerged by floods known as St. Lorea’s Floods, only to emerge miraculously unscathed. The Abbey is the chief overlord of the delta, with other feudal lordlings holding sway in other areas. Two major roads lead from the region: the well-travelled Way of Saints Elisia and Lorea, the first section of the traditional Hespialic Way of Saint Elisia Pilgrimage route, and the lesser-travelled and sometimes disrepaired Delta Trail around the lake to the city of Cappebraccia.
