Stamlow
Stamlow is a town in the state of Flusserdorf, Kamera.
Industry & Trade
Stamlow is home to a small but diverse retail economy, but in the days since iron mining in the region have dried up, one of the most iconic employers is the local pinball foundry, where new designs of the game are constantly being tested and refined for worldwide distribution to this. In addition to this, a good amount of the population is involved to some extent with the regional industry of small, specialized farms focusing on specific artisanal crops or foods.
Points of interest
A local soda fountain has a (rarely used) railroad siding that terminates directly in front of it. Locals call it the "Protest Spur", since it was originally laid by the inhabitants of the town without the permission of the owners of the railroad* at that time. Although the railroad's branch line served local industry with freight, and had a passenger station at the far end of the line, trains passed through Stamlow without so much as permitting a shanty stop.
As a protest, a group of Stamlowers snuck out in the dead of the night and laid an illegal spur from the mainline right up to the local soda fountain. To "Invite em' over for a drink, see that we're a nice town." After two years of campaigning, the railroad finally reneged, and built a proper passenger station for the town of Stamlow. They even added a proper switching point to the Protest Spur, which saw occasional use for the storage of freight cars.
Architecture
Stamlow is notable for being a bit of a departure from most similarly sized towns in Flusserdorf in terms of building style and presentation. This can be traced to a sizable portion of the original downtown having initially been funded by mining interests from New Bayern seeking new investments after their lead mines in their home region threatened to dry up significantly. Even with the local mines here being defunct themselves in the years since, Stamlow is widely known in the region as an architecturally distinctive city from their influence.
*At that time, the railroad in question was the Gadmen and Western Railroad. The line has since been nationalized under the Federail umbrella. As of the Cross-Ekonic War, the line is used by the Bardonese Vis Mundis' transportation corps.
