Federal Republic of Kameria

Kameria, officially the Federal Republic of Kameria, is a nation that exists on the Kamerian Peninsula on the eastern shore of the continent of Cortanis. It consists of five states. Flusserdorf, Grenze, New Bayern, Samor, and Wulfmont. As well as the federal autonomous district of Stampa, which is the seat of federal government.  

History

-The original settlers that would come to form Kameria were refugees and defectors from Fifeland, born from the Fifelandic establishment's general resistance to adopting more environmentalist and conservationist policies.
-More amused than anything, Fifelandic officials gave the defectors a piece of land on the far side of the Sift River from the Fifeland mainland that they technically owned. The only problem was that this was a small, isolated island surrounded on all sides by a river and a cliff.
-This intentionally useless piece of land would later become modern day Flusserdorf City. But at the time, the settlement earned mistrust, apprehension and generally tense relations between the local Seraphs and the ex Fifelanders.
-Fifeland, seeing that the island could be made sustainable after all, attempted an invasion. The proto-Kamerians and the local seraphs banded together to drive off a mutual invader. Resulting in noticeably warmer relations between the two.
-From here, the first settlements outside of Flusserdorf began to form. Mostly in the form of small towns, and the growth of existing Seraph treetop towns.
-Alliances between different towns become alliances between alliances, until something resembling the modern states results.
-Those five nations would continue to act as largely separate entities. Engaging in diplomacy and warfare as any other would. Albeit with colder than average associations. That is, until the Lich War.
-Like most of the world, the five former rivals worked together in the face of Maran Kish's rise; sending the Kamerian Peninsula Expeditionary Rangers to participate in his defeat.
-Aftermath of the Lich War leads to resentment at the continued, increasingly artificial struggles between the nations of the Kamerian Peninsula.
-Unification War begins. Multiple revolutions break out, bring down the existing regime, then ally with one another.
-End result is the modern Federal Republic of Kameria.
-Aaaaaaaaand then the Cross Ekonic War happens.
 

Culture

Kamerian culture is shaped in large part by the environmentalist movement, and the sheer spite required to bring the nation to fruition in the first place. As well as influences from the cultures of the indigenous peoples who have lived on the peninsula for millennia.   One notable quirk of their culture is the existance of the Kamerian Soda Fountain, which is often one of the very first things foreigners will associate with Kamerians (and stereotype them about).

Politics

As the full name suggests, Kameria is a federated republic consisting of its five constituent states and the capital region of Stampa. One of the major points of political division in Kameria is whether the federal republic should exist at all. Proponents are called Federalists, and opponents are known as Separatists. Resentment towards the Federal system has existed ever since the war that birthed it. With opponents claiming that federalist causes for wanting to end the old nations are exaggerated, or even fabricated whole cloth. Federalists cite the records of a casual familiarity between the heads of the old states, and how that contradicts the fiery, war hawk rhetoric they would trade in public. The overall stance being that the old nations had become a racket to play people against each other; and that it might as well have been a single nation anyway.   These, however, aren't the only issues that Federalists and Separatists fight on. Sometimes they'll take stances on issues that one side perceives to either help their own cause or hinder the opponent's. Sometimes, one party will take an opposing stance on an issue simply to contradict the opposing party. Not consciously, of course, but more as an irrational gut feeling move.  

Military

Kameria maintains an all-volunteer defensive military. It consists primarily of ground forces (The Kamerian Army) and the Kamerian Air Force, with significantly less focus placed upon the navy. Though the Kamerian military is on the small side of average compared to other nations of their size, Kameria compensates with a focus on quality over quantity. Cutting edge equipment paired with training that's been refined for decades to produce forces and weapons where one is a match for ten of their equivalents elsewhere.

To view a map of Kameria, click here.   The nation of Kameria is towards the center east of Cortanis, bordering Fifeland to the northwest and Gallia to the south. The nation is situated on the Kamerian Peninsula, which is home to a wide variety of climates and biomes. The south is home to plains and grasslands, while the center is occupied by a rain shadow desert. To the west is swamps and the north to northeast is forested hills and mountains. The wide variety of sights to see, combined with the natural beauty to be found in each, has led to a great influx of tourism to the nation. Kameria enjoys a temperate climate, excepting the dry heat in the deserts of Grenze and the frigid mountaintops of Wulfmont. The prevailing wind though most of the peninsula blows eastward.
