Language Rule-Set
Due to the different and varied languages in the world the language rules needed to be tweaked from those found normally in Dungeons & Dragons 5E games and campaigns, and as such I decided to come up with a new system. The resultant rule-set is built around language points - instead of knowing languages through character creation, your character is given language points due to their race, background, intelligence, talents, etc.
Getting Points
Race
The number of language points gained are given on each races page. In general it's a base of 1 plus 1 per language given normally.
Class, Background and Talents
You gain 1 language point per language given.
Intelligence
You gain a number of language points equal to your Intelligence modifier (minimum of 0).
Using Points
These points can then be spent in two ways:
New Language
You can spend 1 language point learning how to speak a new language. While you can now speak and understand this language, you can't read and write in it unless you also know the script it is written in.
New Script
You can spend 1 language point learning how to read and write a new script (you must already know 1 language that uses this script). Once you have learnt a script you are able to read and write any language, that you already know how to speak, that uses that script.
Due to each race giving a minimum of 2 language points, every character has the option to at least know how to speak, read, and write the language of starting area.
