Backstory Summary
Ever since I was a child I wanted to leave the southern continent (whatever it is called). I loved listening to the tales the sailors told of their voyages and the different people and creatures they had encountered. My parents used to work as merchants and had a shop in a little settlement, buying from the sea raiders and selling to the locals. In recent years the trade routes around the southern continent did not get as much traffic as they used to and there was less and less merchandise to sell. In the end my family decided to give up the trading, we made my grandfather’s old ship seaworthy again and sailed over to Eorin. I was very excited about the move, as I had heard lots of stories about magical creatures and lost treasures over there. But when we arrived, the reality of the place was quite different from what I had imagined. We joined a raiding clan and sailed up and down the coastline, mostly stealing grains and sheep from farmers that did not put up much of a fight. This quickly became dull routine and I often dreamed about leaving the coast behind to seek adventure further inland. About a year after we had arrived in Eorin there was an incident. While at sea, we were surprised by a storm and there was no way to land the boat safely at the coast. I was trying to secure the sails, when I was swept overboard and fell into the ocean. I remember fighting to stay above water, but eventually I could not fight the waves any longer. I felt an extreme cold come over me and lost consciousness. Somehow I survived and woke up on a stony beach. As soon as I came to, I realized that something had changed within me. Right next to me on the beach lay an intricately decorated golden compass that I had never seen before. When I picked it up, I felt an energy burst forth from me, pooling inside the compass. I instinctively understood that I could use this energy to cast spells. I don’t understand why or how I got this power, but as soon as I realized I had it, I knew I would never go back to the pirate’s life. My family probably thinks that I’m dead anyway. Family Ties
Father: Roko Mizzenbrail, used to be a merchant but now he’s a pirate. This line of work isn’t really that new to him though, as my grandparents were pirates too.
Mother: Zara Mizzenbrail, also pirate.
My parents are called Roko and Zara Mizzenbrail. My father was the son of pirates and my mother’s parents ran a little shop which my parents took over after both my maternal grandparents had died. They had to eventually give up the shop though and are now both sailing on my paternal grandfather’s old ship as pirates.
My parents had a lot of kids and very little time or desire to take care of them. My relationship to them is not necessarily bad, but it just was never really close.
Siblings
I have 5 siblings. Zak and Zeo are my eldest brothers, they are twins. When they became adults, they joined a pirate crew (the Sharphooks) but we recently met back up with them in Eorin. Jax is one of my older sisters. I never got along with her, she used to make fun of me often for wanting to explore the world. Raz is a year older than me and my favourite sister. She is simple, lazy and very kind. She is not really cut out to be a pirate. Ula is my baby sister. She is quite young and therefore pretty annoying.
