Aarakocra

The aarakocra came to this plane during the Nightfall, tribes and families travelling through large rifts either by accident or on purpose. Now trapped here, the aarakocra of Eorin have adapted from their original ancestors. Due to the greater gravity compared to their native plane their bodies have grown heavier over the generations to compensate, their leg muscles getting stronger and their bones becoming denser. Due to this they can no longer fly, unable to lift their weight using just their wings for any period of time. Their wings are not useless though, able to boost them further than any other humanoid could jump, as well as allowing them to glide down safely from heights.   They are small in number, tending to live in remote areas as part of wandering tribes or deep in the mountains and forests. The last century or so has seen some of the aarakocra migrating into native civilisations, but they are still a rare sight.

Aarakocra Traits

As an aarakocra, you have certain traits in common with your people.   Ability Score Increase. Your Dexterity score increases by 2 and your Wisdom score increases by 1.   Age. Aarakocra reach maturity by age 6. Compared to humans, aarakocra don’t usually live longer than 50 years.   Size. Aarakocra are about 4 to 5 feet tall. They typically have a wingspan around twice their height. They have small torsos and thick legs, weighing between 100 and 130 pounds. Your size is Medium.   Speed. Your base walking speed is 25 feet.   Darkvision. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.   Wings. You can use your wings to help you manoeuvre. Your Long Jump and High Jump distances are doubled and you receive no falling damage for the first 50ft you drop, as long as there is space equal to you your wingspan.   Talons. You are proficient with your unarmed strikes, which deal 1d4 slashing damage on a hit. Additionally, you can use your reaction to grip the surface you are standing on with your talons, giving you advantage on any Strength saves or Strength (Athletics) checks against being knocked prone or shoved.   Languages. You get +3 Language Points.
