Kruld

The Kruld (Kr-euld) is the collective name for the people living in the frozen lands of the Norfold Taiga.   The name for these people was given to them long ago by the people of the civilized world whose meaning, in ancient Asfali, means "Cold".   The Kruld are a warrior society, they put deed over words, and do not cling to the family that they are born with, but instead elect a family forged through the trials of combat. It is not uncommon to see veterans of many battles band together and form a family on their own.   With the food being scarce, and the climate being harsh, the Kruld have been split up into several clans, some of which are unable to see eye-to-eye. Each of which has carved out a portion of the land for themselves.   Whilst their leadership titles are hereditary and given to the close kin of the ruler, they can also be contested when there is enough doubt in the ability for one to lead.   The Kruld hold honour in high regard and are often accepting of the fact that people swear upon as an argument unless the person swearing is known to have no honour at all. They are willing to trust the word of those who have proven themselves before them. Once someone's word is given, there is no turning back.   Within the culture of the Kruld, there rests a high power distance between the people. Those who have attained the rank of chieftain or matriarch are hardly questioned unless they have proven themselves to be weak or unfit to rule.   In Kruld Society, all are subject to the words of the Lawspeaker, it does not matter whether they are a simple clansman or chieftain. They are called upon when the honour of a fellow Kruld is questioned, or the ancient laws of the lands have been invoked.
