Disaster / Destruction
The catastrophe that destroyed the city of Heliopolis.
At its origin, two siblings: Galapagos and Mikralogos. Of Edafosian and Pterenians parents respectively, they studied in the same scientific branch. One day, they discovered what could possibly become a new source of energy to replace solar energy used until now, and named it Point Zero.
Disagreement then followed, Galapagos, the Edafosian brother, refusing to tell the public about their discovery, while Mikralogos insisting that Point Zero would save them from an impending catastrophe.
Regardless of their attempts at keeping Point Zero secret until an agreement was reached, the information was leaked and caused a huge divide amongst the people. Driven by fear, a civil war broke and led to many casualties, even though it did not last long before a peaceful agreement was found. What subsisted from this war was the mutual hate between Edafosians and Pterenian, each side blaming the other. Edafosians were blamed for their over-abundance of restrictions, while Pterenians were blamed for not listening to others regarding the approaching catastrophe.
Despite that, the project planning to make Point Zero the new source of energy was approved. The fear of the impending catastrophe was still strong and people were encouraged to find refuge in the city, now more protected with the use of Point Zero instead of solar energy.
But the remnants of the civil war still lingered among some Edafosian groups, and their desire to prove their truth only grew stronger. One of these dissident groups took it a step further, breaking into the security system of Point Zero. By doing this, the confinement field was broken and before they could realize what they had done, Gargantua was born.
Only 10 seconds were left to those in the Point Zero control room to panic before Gargantua started engulfing everything it came across. In 20 seconds, it had reached the size of half the city, and in 1 minute, it had eaten itself.
Every single person in the city had disappeared. Anyone found under a 1km radius of the epicenter was irradiated to death. The life expectancy of those 10km away from the epicenter was reduced to one month. Only people shielded by the height of the mountains were spared.
Al-Baqiya can be found near craters following the catastrophe. Moreover, only a few Edafosians tribes who did not settle down survived. They are the one referred to by the term "Edafosian". Wind carries radiations across the desert and the sea, causing unpredictable phenomenons.
