Xingqin

The Xingqin are the nation currently ruling over the eastern islands, and are experiencing a massive societal recession.

Founding

The Xingqin formed around the same time as the Ramerian Confederation of Cylia, although exact dates aren't known since they pursued an isolationist diplomacy as opposed to the previous dynasty that promoted trade with the west.
Little is known about how they dethroned the old emperor, yet travellers tell tales of a great horde descending from the northern plains and laying waste to an already weakened empire.

Contact with Rameria

It didn't take long for Xingqin scout ships to approach the western continent and raid undefended settlements, sparking centuries of tense diplomatic relations between the two powers.
All counterattacks by Rameria have however proven fruitless as their navy wasn't built for such long-range maneuvers. This lead to Xingqin being able to safely engage in skirmrishes without having to fear much in the way of retaliation, yet around 620 the first Ramerian high-sea warships were finally deployed.
This lead to a long, uneasy armistice with building tensions that ultimately lead to the Invasion of Tares, sparking off a continent-spanning war in 655 .

The Recession

After the Godhammer Incident, large parts of the Xingqin army lay in ruins and a lot of resources were already burnt through from the war, leading to a number of famines. As such, the people have lost faith in the Emperor and believe the gods to have forsaken him, leading to the various islands that were previously under his command to break free.
He was still able to maintain a strong grip on the main isle even though dissidence is on an all-time high and there is talk of revolution.

Military

Navy

The Xingqin are masterful shipbuilders, using heavy wood complimented with certain metal alloys to make extraordinarily durable high-sea ships. They are also renowned for the so-called 'Qin Fire', a highly flammable liquid they can shoot over surprisingly long ranges to set fire to enemy ships. They also have the peculiarity of being specifically designed to hold horses which can then be used for quick hit and run tactics.
They also have short-range galleys which are specialised in skirmrishes and usually sport a battalion of archers.
Their navy's greatest advantage is its speed, being able to outrun the grand Ramerian warships while picking off smaller vessels with ease.

Army

Their army is heavily predicated upon archery and maneuverability, often utilizing horses. Their main strategies involve peppering the other side with arrows while constantly staying out of reach and pursuing a defeat in detail, to which end they have highly specialised scout corps.
It is not known how they choose their soldiers, yet the war clearly showed that their recruitment standards slackened as the war dragged on to the point that even teenagers would serve.
