Kingdom of Seekliff
The Kingdom of Seekliff was historically a very reclusive country but has recently broken out of its shell to begin expanding and trading with others.
Structure
Monarch (King/Queen) > Prince/ss > Duke/Duchess > Count > Viscount > Baron > Knight > Commoner
Culture
The people of Seekliff are typically very traditionalist and relaxed people. Many choose to remain ignorant of the country's troubled recent history, instead choosing to focus on the here and now. Seeklins are taught from a young age that the past is the past and cannot be revoked, so it's best to move forward and ignore past strife in order to build a better tomorrow. The individual is emphasized less than the whole, be it a family group, guild, or town. They revel in the idea that anyone can be a hero, but "being a hero" is broadened to basically mean "be the best at your trade" instead of life-risking endeavors.
Despite best efforts from the royal family to maintain a close grip on the country, Seekliff is vastly uncharted, leaving vast swaths of the territory uninfluenced by the Meulia family's rule. Compared to the coast, inland Seekliff is wild and free. The vast jungles and mountains provide great cover for any who wish to hide away from the pressures of the kingdom, and it's not uncommon for inland groups to be almost or fully isolated from the rest of Seekliff society.
Likewise, the Swirling Isles are so numerous that the Meulia family can't keep every single one under an iron fist. The majority of islands only loosely know that they've been "claimed," but the Meulia family generally doesn't bother extending force out to them so long as they stay quiet and don't step out of line.
The royal family itself is someone of a point of tension at the moment. Anaya, the queen, is an albino half-elf, and her mother died in childbirth. Some see these as signs that Anaya is a demon or some other sign of doom; others see her as a beacon of hope and good fortune.
Public Agenda
At this current point in time, the Kingdom of Seekliff is primarily in the midst of its attempts at becoming a trade empire. After centuries of being self-sufficient, the people of Seekliff have begun to realize that the outside world offers more than their country can, so they're trying their reach at importing and exporting more.
The Meulia family is encouraging this trade.
History
bullet point history!
about 2600 years ago, a great evil of unknown description was terrorizing the area. a Brave Valiant Civilian named Aelamin Meulia killed the dragon, and that guy became the first King.
the kingdom of seekliff was mostly coastal and stuck with their own, rarely interacting with others.
fast forward about 2000 years, the late King Gauthier Meulia was a major believer in national superiority and regularly went to war with locals in order to gather more land for the kingdom
from 250 to 200 years ago, Seekliff was in it's "age of expansion," aka the Meulian family hired hundreds of adventurers and soldiers to go marching inland to "conquer the wilderness" that was inland Seekliff
the age of exploration also saw the claim of the Swirling Isles as Seekliff territory, although they still to this day rarely show any signs of actual control over the area
around 35 years ago, King Gauthier died of old age at 682, leaving his only daughter, Anaya, to have the throne at the age of 22(?)
Demography and Population
Seekliff is most heavily populated by elves and humans. Other races do exist, especially now that the kingdom has more broadly opened its borders, but elves and humans are historically the main races of Seekliff.
Tabaxi, kobolds, lizardfolk, and several feyfolk are native to the inlands. Tabaxi have sparsely integrated into the coastal culture, and the others are often seen as second class.
Foreign Relations
Having been majority closed off from outside influence for the past centuries, the Kingdom of Seekliff has relatively fresh relations with its neighbors.
Natreau - Seekliff engaged in a brief war with Natreau during their Age of Expansion, clashing at what is currently the border between the two countries. Seekliff wanted to expand into already claimed land, so they had a spat. Their relations are civil now, but older folks often still feel bitter toward the Natreau Republic.
Goldfield - The most friendly of all of Seekliff's neighbors. Goldfield was the first nation to extend an olive branch and open trade with the newly opened Seekliff, and their peoples get along rather well.
Prowainya - tbd
Agrana - Being the closest nation from across the Travast Ocean and a trade empire of its own, Seekliff and Argana are on somewhat tense but amicable terms. The have dozens of trade routes between them, but they see each other as rivals to an almost comical degree.
