Makao (Mah-cow)

The largest port city in Seekliff along the Swirling Sea. Originally used for in-country commerce exclusively, Makao is now an entry point for people from all over Mouveau to visit the kingdom of Seekliff.

Demographics

Although originally populated almost exclusively with elves and humans, Makao City is now one of the most diverse places in Seekliff. Any race or culture can be found here, trading their wares or even immigrating to stay here permanently.

Infrastructure

Built along the coast, Makao is primarily a massive port. The length of the city far surpasses how far inland it goes, and the majority of its coast is taken up by massive docks, piers, and boardwalks. There are plenty of warehouses, shipyards, and smiths. The outskirts of town have a few small farms, but the majority of the local food comes from fishing, so not much emphasis is given to the farmland.

Districts

Makao is broken up into 3 distinct districts, although some of these can be broken into subdistricts informally.    THE MARKET DISTRICT - This is where the majority of trade takes place. Located in the center of the city, dozens of shops fill the area, both as stands and as proper buildings. If you're looking for something, it's likely here. This is also where the town hall resides, as well as several expensive residencies for the upper class. The area of residency is walled off and closed to visitors, but the rest of the district is open and largely where visitors are encouraged to stay. There are also several inns here.   THE RESIDENTIAL DISTRICT - To the east of the Market District is where homes are built. Almost all of Makao's residents live here, save for the upper class and a few dedicated workers. The district itself is divided into several smaller districts, most notable of which are the slums and the "white fence district" where the upper middle class lives. The locals will say the residential district is where the best taverns are.   THE BUSINESS DISTRICT - Put simply, where all the busywork is. Shipyards, workshops, smithies, and other such workplaces are found en masse here. Located to the west of the market district, the majority of Makao residents work somewhere within this district.
