Endiness
And lo, Soa created Endiness! He then saw the empty valleys, the desert plains, the lone mountains and, in his infinite wisdom, knew to fill it with life. For that purpose, he created the Divine Tree to create and birth new life in this relm. He planted the Tree, let it grow, and from it sprung life. At first, the Tree created small and simple creatures but as the Tree birthed more and more, they slowly became more and more powerful until, one day, the spark of conscience suddenly appeared.Excerpt from the Soan Creation Myth
Geography
Endiness' geography is unique in that it possesses multiple ecological biomes within its relatively small size. Geographically speaking, the continent is separated in five regions according to the cardinal directions: Northlands, Estlands, Southlands, Westlands and Midlands.
Northlands
Despite its name, the Northlands offer a relatively comfortable climate. Only the northern most region, the Gloriano is truly uninhabitable. The Gloriano offers a very cold and desolate climate, with close to no native vegetation, rocky terrain and dangerous creatures both magical and mundane. South of this region however is the Merzis peninsulawhich, due to it being located between the Gloriano and the Death frontier, offers a comfortable temperate climate thank to both the cold air from the north and the hot one from the south. Unfortunately, this also puts the region an increased risk for extreme weather such as hurricanes or floods.Estlands
The Eastlands are considered one of the most hospitable areas of the continent. Protected from the hot and dry winds of the Midlands by the Sauntering Peaks, the Eastlands offer a temperate climate suitable for both farming, forestry while still offering rich deposits of minerals within the surrounding rock. Fairly isolated from the rest of the continent, the Eastlands tend to have microclimates throughout the region. Notable examples include the Golden Forest to the northeast, the Low Plains in the southeast, or the Grey Bog to the south. Furthermore, while the Sauntering Peaks can be crossed on foot using certain paths, there also exist a network of underground limestone caverns underneath by which one can cross. Unfortunately, for a currently unknown reason, the caverns have been host to more and more hostile creatures in the last harvests.Southlands
The Southlands collectively refer to the territory south of the Death Frontier. This includes the area comprised by the Great Plains and the Broken Islands. The Great Plains are an area of Endiness still unclaimed in the modern day in large part due to the presence of incredible metamagic phenomena (similar to those observed in the Valley of Corrupted Gravity) and powerful magical beings. In spite of this however, the region is speculated as having a large amount of resources which sometimes is sufficient reason for intrepid explorers to try and journey there. The Broken Islands is a small archipelago of island off the west coast of the main continent, further to the south. The island are known to be inhabited by small communities but the territory itself is not claimed by any major power at this time. The relative small livable area combined with active volcanic have rendered colonization an activity left to the daring or the occasional hermit community.Westlands
The Westlands usually refers to the area mostly dominated by the Death Frontier. It is usually defined as the area bordered by the Mortal Dragon Mountain Range to the west and the Valley of Corrupted Gravity to the east. Given the usual arid climate, the area is barely inhabited, however, tribes have been observed living in the area, only sometimes traveling to other areas in order to trade.Midlands
The Midlands is the area located East of the Death Frontier and West of the Sauntering Peaks. Thanks to dry wind currents from the west, the climate in the region is relatively arid compared to the Eastlands but not to the extend of the Westlands. Compared to the other region of Endiness, the Midlands has comparatively few natural resources (barring the occasional natural spring). The region however, presents an important strategic advantage as it controls most of the eastern access to the Ilisa Bay as well as the Death Frontier .
